Chapter 2

  • The following morning, Jane woke up feeling a burning sensation next to her. She shifted uncomfortably and opened her eyes slowly.
  • Her gaze immediately fell onto the handsome man lying beside her, their skin touching intimately. He was completely naked.
  • She froze for a moment before letting out a loud scream, “Ah!”
  • Panicked, she scrambled away from him, causing the blanket to slip off her body, revealing bruises all over her skin.
  • The man lazily opened his eyes and spoke in a relaxed tone, “You’re up early.”
  • Jane quickly grabbed the blanket to cover herself up. She glared at him and asked coldly, “Who are you and why are you here?”
  • Damien’s lips curved into a smirk, “You mean to ask why we’re in bed together?”
  • Jane’s anger flared up, “Answer my question!”
  • Damien sat up and pointed to the hickey marks on his body, “Last night, you came to me in the corridor, hugged me, kissed me, and even undressed me. You seduced me.”
  • Jane immediately refuted his words, “That’s nonsense! I would never do such a thing!”
  • Damien’s smirk deepened, “It seems like you’ve already admitted to it. That makes things easier.”
  • Jane’s eyes widened in shock, “Could it be the drug?!”
  • Damien looked at her with amusement, “You were the one who brought me to this room when you were drunk. Even if I took advantage of you, you were the one who initiated it. And now, you’re accusing me of taking advantage of you?”
  • Jane gritted her teeth, “You’re despicable!”
  • Damien chuckled, “You’re the one who got us into this mess. So, what are you going to do now?”
  • She was uncertain of her thoughts at that moment.
  • Is the medication genuinely that potent?
  • Presently, she is experiencing an excruciating headache.
  • “It’s alright, you won’t know until you try it,” Damien chuckled.
  • Jane felt an intense sense of shame and suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
  • “Miss Austen, I understand that you are not at peace,” Damien sighed, “Don’t worry, I will take responsibility.”
  • Jane glared at him, “I don’t need you to take responsibility for me. How do you even know my name?”
  • “Your identification card,” Damien’s gaze fell on the bedside table, “I don’t share a bed with strangers.”
  • Jane’s countenance changed again upon hearing his reply.
  • She followed his gaze and saw her identification card resting on the table.
  • Without much thought, she grabbed her identification card, wrapped herself in the quilt, and made her way out of the bed.
  • “Where are you going, Miss Austen?” Damien’s deliberate voice came from behind.
  • “That’s none of your concern,” Jane replied coldly.
  • She merely wanted to leave quickly and forget everything that had occurred the previous night.
  • “On the contrary, it’s entirely up to me.”
  • Jane turned to face him and glared, “What are you trying to say?”
  • “Although you said that you would not hold me accountable, I did not say that I wouldn’t hold you accountable,” Damien looked at her with his eyes slightly raised, exuding an indescribable charm.
  • A man with an attractive appearance is causing envy among women.
  • The fact is, he is in great physical shape, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, giving him the perfect inverted triangle figure. Even his complexion appears fairer than most women.
  • Jane’s annoyance was evident on her face. “Are you serious?”
  • It’s clear that this man is not the one suffering, she is.
  • “You may feel wronged, but I, Damien Wolfe, am not someone who takes things lightly.” The man’s voice was cold and distant, unlike his previous cheerful tone.
  • Damien Wolfe? Jane was taken aback for a moment, as the name sounded familiar, like she had heard it somewhere before.
  • She turned to him impatiently. “What do you want? Money? How much?”
  • Seeing her reaction, Damien knew that she had no idea who he was.
  • He smirked. “I have plenty of money, but there is one thing I lack.”
  • Jane looked at him skeptically, sensing that something was off.
  • “What is it?”
  • “I need a wife.”
  • Jane laughed. “That’s not funny!”
  • How could a man with his looks have trouble finding a spouse?
  • “Do you think I’m joking?” Damien’s tone was serious.
  • “I don’t agree!” Jane refused, ready to leave again.
  • It was absurd – two strangers who had spent only one night together were about to get married? Was he out of his mind?
  • “Then I’ll have to take the recording to court and sue you for raping an exceptional single man. I’m sure it will attract a lot of attention from the media.”
  • Jane paused, turned her head, and stared at him.
  • “Recording? What recording?”
  • Damien reached for his phone from the bed, played an audio clip, and handed it to Jane.
  • “It’s so hot, I’m so uncomfortable...” a woman’s voice complained.
  • Jane’s face turned red with embarrassment. It was her voice!
  • “Miss, please let me go. This is not right.” Damien’s serious voice came through, confirming that it was indeed him.
  • Woman: “No, um...”
  • ...
  • Jane’s face turned even redder. She had no idea she was capable of being so... passionate.
  • Damien gazed at Jane and inquired, “May I know what choice you have made?”
  • “You...you’re scheming against me!” Jane glared at Damien with disgust, finding his behavior truly despicable.
  • “I’m merely taking preventive measures. After all, my decision is currently the right one,” Damien replied with a smirk, his delicate peach blossom eyes glinting with a hint of cynicism.
  • Jane was so infuriated by his audacity that she was rendered speechless. She had encountered individuals with thick skin before, but never had she come across someone as brazen as him.
  • “Why are you so upset when so many men don’t want to get married nowadays?” Damien shrugged and spoke helplessly.
  • “My family is pressuring me to continue the family line,” he continued, his peach blossom eyes widening with feigned innocence.
  • Jane snickered, “I have no intention of continuing your family line.”
  • “That’s precisely why I need you to marry me!” Damien responded nonchalantly.
  • Jane was momentarily taken aback and stared at him quizzically.
  • “I require a wife in name to silence my family,” Damien explained. “From what I’ve heard, Miss Austen, you’re the perfect candidate.”
  • Jane wanted to retort that he had no idea what he was talking about, but the situation seemed all too familiar. In contemporary romance novels, wealthy heirs would marry a woman in name to avoid being pressured into marriage by their families, and then divorce when the timing was right.
  • Therefore, the man in front of her must be a wealthy heir.
  • “What did you say your name was again?” Jane asked subconsciously.
  • Damien’s lips curved into a smile. “I apologize for not introducing myself properly earlier. My name is Damien Wolfe, Miss Austen.”
  • Though his voice was not particularly loud, it seemed to echo through the room.
  • Damien Wolfe...Damien...
  • Jane’s expression suddenly changed. Could he be that Damien Wolfe? She thought.
