Chapter 7 Unforeseen Meetings

  • “How is work?” Clara asked primly, while gracefully twirling the noodles with the fork. The others subtly looked at them, he could feel it. Dorian stifled a sigh. He was utterly bored and they weren’t even halfway through the dinner. Among the family members, only his grandpa and Clara were the ones who made an effort to talk to him. Clara used to be his closest cousin and confidant, but somewhere along the journey of adulthood, they had drifted apart.
  • “Good,” he replied, not looking up from his plate. He just wanted to be out of this facade of a dinner. For the next few minutes, only the clinking of plates and glasses could be heard. Dorian sometimes wondered why they bothered to arrange this when no one wanted to talk with another, and they all walked on eggshells around him. It always irked him to see his father’s empty seat, left as a stark reminder of the past. Grandfather never let him forget it for some reason as if his father’s death was his fault.
  • After the arduous time, Dora could finally breathe in relief. Loosening his tie he leaned on the seat, his eyes mapping the street lights. Kyle drove silently as if gauging his Alpha’s mood. “Where to?” he murmured, his eyes trained on the road. “Anywhere,” Dorian replied. He did not want to go back to the house that echoed all his failures and resentments. Suddenly, the car skidded, and the next thing they knew was that the car was screeching to a halt. A piercing scream followed by a shout. Dorian’s eyes honed on the red-haired girl running towards a man and then he was unlocking the door of the moving car, stepping out and running towards her. Distantly, he heard Kyle’s protesting shout.
