Chapter 751 Get Ready for the Rescue

  • “Amanda!” Saint Jér’s gaze toward her had lost all its former tenderness— He had begged her for days, yet a few words from Hendrik had wrapped chains around her heart. Worse, she’d actually pointed a gun at him! Beyond cure. “Commander, this—” The bodyguards who rushed over were stunned by her move. But because of her special status, no one dared step in to stop her. And just when Hendrik thought he’d pushed things too far, Saint Jér suddenly backed down, caught off guard: “Fine! I’ll grant you your wish!” That single “grant” made Amanda’s eyes well up. From beginning to end, all she wanted was someone she could stay with for life. She’d finally met Hendrik; finally, the heart soaked in killing and plunder, frozen stiff for years, could beat for this man again… She couldn’t let him slip away. “Big brother, thank you!” Amanda spoke with heartfelt gratitude. Then she spun around, beaming at Hendrik. “Deishimon, did you hear? Big brother is willing to let us be together!” “Yeah.” He’d heard. But what did that have to do with him? Saint Jér’s eyes were icy cold… probably just a cunning delaying tactic. Hendrik didn’t dare relax. Luckily, under Amanda’s die-hard protection, he got a bit more freedom. His movement range expanded from the cabin to the whole deck. “Once the boat’s fixed, we’ll head back to Lumonburg together… I’ve got a super big surprise for you!” While getting some air on deck, Amanda kept daydreaming out loud. If she hadn’t noticed his lack of interest, she would’ve even told him: once they were back, she planned to ask her family for a marriage of convenience. But Hendrik’s mind wasn’t on her at all. His plan had been scrambled; he had to rebuild it. And with this brief window of relative freedom, he needed to find a way to contact Zachary fast. Otherwise, once Saint Jér caught on, everything would turn into a mess. “When will the boat be fixed?” he asked suddenly. Seeing him speak to her first, Amanda thought he, like her, was eager to return to Lumonburg and embrace that so-called “big surprise.” So she gladly shared everything she knew. The only thing that showed her hitman instincts was this: even at her most excited, her hand stayed at the small of her back, right where her pistol was hidden. Always on guard. Hendrik turned his face away, eyes hard as he watched the waves stacking out on the sea. “Weather’s turning…” “What?” Amanda didn’t catch what he meant and pressed him. “Deishimon, what did you just say?” “Sky’s changing. I’m thinking of taking down that flag up top so it doesn’t catch the wind.” Hendrik answered casually. It was a spur-of-the-moment idea—climb to the highest point and get a better look at their surroundings. He knew Amanda would follow him no matter what. With two people up there, they’d be a bigger target and help him narrow his focus. Who knew—maybe his team would happen to sweep this stretch of sea. If not, showing himself more might still leave clues or traces. The little brat at home would pick up on something, eventually. If saving himself wasn’t ripe yet, then keep creating chances—and wait to be rescued. “I’ll go with you!” Sure enough, Amanda’s gaze swept his flattened jacket pocket. Confirmed he wasn’t packing a weapon. Naturally, escaping wasn’t on the table. She smiled and moved to go with him. What she didn’t know was that this very choice gave Zachary, lurking several nautical miles away, a sharper read— the way that flag was rolled up was clearly Hendrik’s handiwork. “Get ready for the rescue, now!” With that order, everyone on the boat snapped into motion. To avoid spooking the target, Zachary split his people into two teams. One stayed put, waiting for backup. The other went with him, disguised as passing merchants, inching toward the stalled hull.
