Chapter 5 Utterly Heartless

  • “Ah...”
  • On the other end of the video, Sheila saw her daughter locked in a dog crate, desperately eating dog food.
  • Her tears fell, cascading down in an instant.
  • With tears streaming down her face, Sheila pleaded, “Horace, please, don't treat my daughter like this! I beg you, let Nadine go, she's only four years old!”
  • At that moment, Sheila was overwhelmed with unbearable heartache.
  • Tears fell from her eyes like rain, and on several occasions, she nearly fainted.
  • Her daughter, a mere four-year-old girl, was unfortunately subjected to such hardship because of her mother's predicaments.
  • That's dog food she's eating! It's meant for dogs, not humans! How could a person eat dog food? Moreover, Nadine is just a four-year-old child, whose digestive system hadn't even fully developed yet! Her life could be in danger after consuming the dog food!
  • However, the utterly inhumane Horace forced Nadine to eat dog food.
  • He was utterly despicable and far too maniacal.
  • There was a moment when Sheila considered going all out and agreeing to be Horace's woman.
  • Because this was the only way he would let Nadine go.
  • As long as Horace released her daughter, Sheila would rather sacrifice herself.
  • Even if Sheila were to die, she would never let Horace have his way.
  • However, the prerequisite was that Sheila had to ensure her daughter's safe return.
  • Her daughter had endured many hardships over the years under her care.
  • Other people's children all had beloved toys, favorite snacks, and beautiful new clothes.
  • Nadine, however, had none of that.
  • All of Nadine's toys were crafted by Sheila using collected pop cans.
  • Throughout her life, Sheila had never bought her any snacks, nor had she ever purchased new clothes for her.
  • The clothes that Nadine wore were hand-me-downs, given to her by the neighbor's child.
  • Sheila would be filled with guilt whenever she thought about these things.
  • She gritted her teeth and told herself that she couldn't let Nadine endure such torment any longer.
  • Nadine's godmother, Violette Zeller, couldn't help but raise her voice in protest. “Don't you dare cross the line, Horace! Release my goddaughter immediately!”
  • Violette's health wasn't in the best condition as she showed symptoms of hypoglycemia.
  • Once, she had fainted on the road due to hypoglycemia. It was Nadine who gave her a piece of candy that she had been reluctant to eat. This act saved Violette.
  • Violette was very grateful, so she accepted Nadine as her goddaughter and cherished her deeply.
  • Ever since she learned about Nadine's incident, Violette had been constantly by Sheila's side.
  • Not long ago, it was when Sheila had gone to the restroom that Violette stealthily unlocked Sheila's mobile phone.
  • She discreetly looked up Zoran's phone number and used her own phone to send Zoran a text message, hoping to persuade him to return and take responsibility.
  • When Violette saw from the video call that Nadine was being forced to eat dog food, she too felt a pang in her heart.
  • Her tears involuntarily began to fall.
  • “You'd better mind your own f*cking business, Violette! This little girl is just your goddaughter! She's not your biological daughter! Is it worth offending me for her sake?” Horace yelled angrily.
  • Violette felt a surge of anger, her face turning beet red. She was so infuriated by Horace's words that she was on the verge of exploding right there and then.
  • This scoundrel is completely lawless!
  • Horace was indeed not easy to deal with. because he was the son of Charles Watson from the Watson family.
  • The Watson family had become the most powerful family in Jacaster. Their influence was overwhelming, making them a formidable force to reckon with.
  • With a stern expression, Horace coldly stated, “Don't say I didn't warn you, Violette. If you keep meddling in other people's business, I'll come after you too! Even if the entire Zeller family opposes me, you're still doomed sooner or later. If you provoke me, I won't mind annihilating your family in advance!”
