Chapter 4 Who Is He?

  • Once in the car, Finn didn't drive. Instead, he turned to look at the girl in the passenger seat.
  • Jojo creased her brows at him. “What's wrong?“ She asked. Could she have done something wrong?
  • Finn sighed, looking into her eyes. “Have we been together today?“ He asked calmly.
  • Jojo shook her head. “No, we haven't. Why?“ She questioned. She still did not understand his questions.
  • “Well, you didn't greet me,” Finn shrugged, looking a little disappointed. Jojo could only sigh inwardly. 'This current Finn complains too much.'
  • She was still lost in her thoughts when Finn leaned towards her and kissed her cheeks. But just as he was about to pull away, he smelled her sweet scent.
  • Unconsciously, he put his nose on her neck and sniffed. Oh, hell! He loved her scent. He didn't want to pull away.
  • His actions made the girl freeze. “Finn?“ She called in confusion.
  • Finn quickly pulled away in embarrassment. He had been feeling uneasy ever since the day he found out about his true feelings for her. He was scared that he could lose her if he didn't plan things well.
  • “Um… I just thought I smelled fish on you,“ he said, a smile appearing at the corner of his lips.
  • Jojo creased her brows again. She sniffed herself and looked back at Finn. “That was mean, Brother,” she complained with a pout.
  • Finn burst out laughing. “I was only kidding,” he said. “Anyway, I missed that pout on your face.“
  • Jojo poured even more. “You are no longer the sweet big brother I had,” she said, looking away from him.
  • Finn couldn't stop chuckling. He gently rubbed her head and started driving. “Isn't it too early to judge me, darling?“
  • Jojo was a bit stunned by the way he addressed her, but she decided to ignore it. “So, how is everyone back home?“
  • Finn sighed deeply at her question. He pursed his lips. “Who exactly is everyone?“
  • Jojo sighed. She didn't know who exactly to ask about. “Um, my dad? My sister? Did she grow up, or is she still spoiled by my dad?“
  • Finn stole a glance at her and felt a little sorry for her. While she was always struggling with life, her own biological dad was spoiling someone else he thought was his daughter. It must have been so hard for her.
  • “When was the last time you talked to your dad?“ He asked calmly. Maybe it was time to try mending things between the two.
  • Jojo rubbed her nose. “Five years ago?“ She asked. She also realized that it had been so long.
  • It was that night after she was released from prison that she finally managed to expose her stepmother. She was also able to open her dad's eyes to realize that she was actually his daughter.
  • But immediately after that, she asked him to send her abroad. She didn't want to stay in that family any longer.
  • “You know that he regrets everything, right?“ Finn slowly asked. He wanted to see her reaction.
  • Jojo turned to look at him, a look of dissatisfaction on her face. “What happened to you? Why are you defending him now?“ She asked in disappointment.
  • Finn exhaled. “Jojo, your dad...” he tried to speak, but Jojo shook her head at him.
  • “To me, he is not that. Don't you remember? He has never acknowledged me as his daughter. He didn't care if I was alive or dead. I was in prison for six months, but he never showed up. He knew that my stepmother mistreated me, but he didn't say a word,” Jojo spoke up. The more she said, the angrier she felt.
  • Finn tensed up. He didn't know she still held so much bitterness. In the past, she pretended that she didn't care.
  • He stopped the car in front of a restaurant and held her hand. “I have never forgotten any of these things. I'm sorry if I said the wrong thing, okay?“
  • Jojo took a deep breath. “It's fine,” she said. “Let us not be angry because of them. We have always done well without them.“
  • Finn could only nod in agreement. However, in his heart, he felt sorry for the man. “Uncle Ben, you have a long path ahead of you.“
  • Finn made sure that the food they ordered had all of Jojo's favorites. “Just lift a finger if there is anything else you want,” he whispered to her.
  • Jojo couldn't hold back. It had been so long since she had a very good meal. After all, she didn't accept any upkeep money from her dad. She had always been strict on her own budget.
  • “We have already ordered too much,” she said, her mouth full of food. Aah! She loved this brother of hers. No! She loved having a rich brother.
  • Finn felt stupid when he found himself smiling. She wasn't eating graciously at all. Why didn't he feel disgusted? In fact, he enjoyed watching her eat like that.
  • He picked up a towel and wiped the corner of her lips. Jojo stopped eating and looked at him in embarrassment. “Um, I…”
  • “Jojo?“ Jeff called, interrupting her. He had been so curious to find out who this person that Jojo turned him down for was.
  • And when he saw the man's face, he was so shocked. “Finn? President Daniels?“ He called in confusion.
  • Finn looked at him calmly, like his presence didn't matter at all. But Jojo was shocked. “Jeff? What are you doing here?“
  • Jeff pursed his lips and looked at Finn again. 'Is he her new boyfriend? Wait! How do they even know each other?'
  • “Um… I come here often. Actually, this is the restraint that I was supposed to bring you in tonight. I didn't expect to see you here,” Jeff said. He was obviously uncomfortable.
  • His words made Finn crease his brows. So he brought Jojo out for dinner?
  • He looked at Jojo, a little unhappy. “Who is he?“ He asked.
  • Jojo cleared her throat. “Um, he is Jeff, my friend. Jeff, this is my brother, Finn.“
