• Roshan and Selena had only managed to recruit three wolves into their fledgling pack. It wasn’t much—but in a city built on solitude and mistrust, it was a victory. One of them was Casper, a quiet but intense lone wolf with haunted eyes. The others were Ben, rugged and loyal, and Dorcas, sharp-tongued but dependable. They had hoped for more, but in the end, they were grateful. Finding even three wolves willing to give up the safety of solitude for the uncertainty of a new pack was more than they'd dared to expect.
• The morning air in Lone Wolf City was dense with mist and silence. The city, if it could even be called that, was more a sprawl of dilapidated cabins and shacks scattered through the forest, stitched together by winding dirt paths and shrouded in a permanent air of suspicion. As Roshan and his small group made their way through the edge of the city, the sun was just beginning to pierce through the canopy, casting long, slanted beams across the undergrowth.
