Chapter 37 Buried Wishes

  • Back to the present which is actually past from knowing how Erich knows Red and why he doesn't meet her, why is it not love. The string to keep them in place is getting weaker by each passing second as his emotions are getting stronger. Back to Red and Lucifer and Red. Red was looking for Lucifer and found him again stargazing. He was looking at the sky as his eyes held inscrutable emotions in them which made Red worried about him. "Lucifer." Red called, coming closer and knowing enough whenever he is sad, he stargazes. Lucifer didn't reply, lost in the vast sky, surging the unnerving thoughts and emotions in his whole being. Red put her hand on his back, calling his name softly again, "Lucifer." He broke his rhythm and turned to her, giving her a sad smile, "Oh, Red." " "Are you okay?" She asked, srunctinizing his condition. "Yeah, just idling here." "You were so busy these days. I wanted to spend time with you." Red said, looking at him, leaning on the wall. "I had some work." He replied and couldn't help but to notice his tone which sounded exhausted and painful. "Your birthday is coming." "And your time to leave." He whispered, nibbling on his bottom lip and looking down. Red, wanting to be her usual self, forced out a smile and walked to him, "Which one are you excited for? My leaving or your birthday?" She asked. "None." He replied sadly. "Why?" Because every passing moment is stealing you away from me. "Red..? C-Can you.. Will you.. Do-" he stopped because he knew his questions held more weight than he could realize. He sighed, "Nothing." "Lucifer, you seem so sad nowadays." Red said, tilting her head sympathetically at him. "Really? I don't think so." "You are." Lucifer gave her a fake smile, "No. I am fine. In fact, I am glad to receive the lull of my home." Red pouted at his words, "And don't I provide it to you?" She asked. "You and peace are two different words." "I am the blaze of this place!" "Blaze?" he mocked as Red clicked her tongue at him. Lucifer pinched her cheeks, passing her a genuine smile, "Don't. You look cute this way." "And are you afraid to not fall for me?" Red teased with a smirk. I already did. "My time is not that bad." Lucifer laughed a little. Red made an adorably furious face as Lucifer couldn't help to stare at her. I wish I could tell you the condition of my heart, Red. Please don't go. Stay with me, forever. Lucifer thought. The day before his birthday, Lucifer's parents came to meet their son but he was at work. Mr Grave left to do some errands. Red and Mrs Grave were talking. "I am elated to see Lucifer like this. He used to be so cold and distant." Mrs Grave smiled. "Thank you so much, Iris for coming into Lucifer's life. He was so alone but now look at him." she continued. "It was all a connection of hearts." Red replied. "Iris. Lucifer has changed because of you and as a Mother, I don't want you guys to part which would push my son back in darkness." Her voice suddenly became sad yet stern. "I can understand but you don't-" Mrs Grave cut Red off in a desperate voice, "Will you live with him forever?" "What?" "Iris please, don't leave Lucifer. He is nothing without you. He might not realize this now but he will fall apart if you leave." She said- almost pleaded. "What are you trying to say?" "I know your wedding is a fake one, I don't know how long it will last. You both are deceiving us but Iris, in this fake relationship, he is truly happy. Please make it real." "M-Mom... What are you.. Saying?" Red asked hesitantly, swallowing hard in alarm. "I overheard your conversation in the kitchen when you first came here. It hurt us both a lot that we failed to bring our son to be a good man... but we are happy that he is jovial with you. That's why please, don't leave him." Mrs Grave's voice faded in the end with a soft weep. I wish. "Mom, The only thing I can ask for is an apology." Red said, lowering her head in shame. "No, my child, You are such a good girl. You were always considerate about us, without you everything would be desolated." She smiled, holding her hands. "I am sorry but I have to leave. I am not from here, I came from America. My name is Red Bennet," Red said faintly, telling Mrs Grave everything which shook her very core to think how her son could do this, heartbroken and also disappointed. "I am so sorry. We become so selfish that we fail to notice our lies could hurt the ones around us, you are so kind but I have to go back to my life after it." Red told her in a dolorous tone. "But promise me you will come to meet us." Mrs Grave passed a faint smile, eventually understanding them. "Of course!" Red smiled. "But don't let Lucifer know that you know." Red said and she nodded. "Iris- I mean Red. Tell me honestly, do you want to stay?" A dejected smile crept upon her lips to hear this as Red replied, "Iris is Lucifer's but not Red. And when Red will be his, it will be my final destination." "I hope that day will come." Me too. "By the way, You are not angry at us, are you Mom?" Red asked. She smiled and patted her head, "Of course, not." Red grinned and hugged as Lucifer also came back. "Oh, Mom. Hey." Lucifer smiled, coming closer. "Oh, Welcome home, you are early." Red greeted. "Can't I come early?" Lucifer asked, raising an eyebrow. "I am not used to seeing your face at this time." Red said. "Do you have a problem with it?" "What happened to your mood? Why does it seem like someone stepped on your feet?" Red asked, narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "What? What kind of reason is that? At least talk to me lovingly in front of my Mother." Lucifer frowned. "You do it first." Lucifer sighed and forced a smile, "Dear wife, How are you?" Red laughed and joked, "Now it feels like someone beat you up with shoes." Lucifer made an irritated face, "Fine then I'm going to my room." He muttered and left as Red laughed at him while Mrs Grave watched them with a smile. They went to their room and since Mr and Mrs Grave is staying for the night, they have to share the room. Lucifer was sleeping peacefully but when the clock struck twelve, Red woke up Lucifer, overly enthusiastic. "Lucifer. Lucifer. Lucifer. Wake up!" Red said, waking him up. Lucifer groaned and yawned, "What is it?" "Happy birthday!" Red grinned, cupping his cheeks in her hand, her blithe emerging from his clearly. Lucifer yawned again, not opening his eyes. "Hmm. thanks." "Aren't you excited about it?" "My age to be excited about it ended long ago." He replied groggily. "Do you want something for your birthday? Tell me, I will give it to you." Red offered. Lucifer finally opened his eyes and looked at her, "You can't give me this." "What is it?' You. "A lull." "Come on, Lucifer!" "See."Lucifer laughed a little in his sleep and pulled her down with him, cuddling with her. "I want this for now." He murmured on her neck, falling back to sleep leaving Red a blushing mess and her heart beating fast but she soon melted his warmth and wrapped her arms around him. Closing her arm, inhaling his scent and spending her night in his arms. The next day, at his birthday, Red didn't let him go to work, she wanted him to stay because next week she is going back so she wanted to make unforgettable memories with Lucifer, wanting to be with him. "Lucifer! Blow the candles and make a wish!" Red chirped, clapping. "I am turning 31." He frowned. "I don't care, make one." Lucifer sighed and shook his head. He looked at Red, You are my wish. His heart told him but as he blew the candles and cut the cake as they spent a sweet and lovely family time together. Late at night, When Mr and Mrs Grave left for home. Red searched for Lucifer and found him again stargazing. At this point, she was confirmed that he is submerged in despondency. "Lucifer." Red called, coming closer. "Oh, didn't you sleep?" Lucifer asked. "No. I wanted to be with you. I am leaving-" Her words evoked rage from Lucifer, "I know, you don't have to tell me." He said angrily. "What happened? I was just saying." Red spoke innocently. "I am sorry if it made you angry." She mumbled, looking down. Lucifer regained his posture and shook his head, "No, I am sorry. I shouldn't have said it." He apologized, looking down. "You are changing." Red said, biting her lips. "Maybe I am being my cold self again." "Why? There's no need for it." "I.. don't know." "Don't hurt yourself this much." Red said, taking a step closer. Lucifer's lips curved upward depressingly as he spoke in low tone, "I am not, it is you who is hurting me." "Me?" "Yes." "How?" "By existing, by being with me." He grit his teeth and continued, "By talking about leaving me." "Lucifer we both knew this day had to come." Lucifer looked at her with a gaze of despair and raised his voice, "But the dream of being together wasn't part of it!" "Who told you to dream like this?" Red asked, putting her hands on his chest. "I didn't!" He shouted, almost crying. "Then what happened?!" "I don't want to lose you!" Lucifer sniffed to not cry, telling her how the thought of her leaving is hurting him, "If you'd leave me, I will be alone. I won't have a friend anymore, I won't have a reason to enjoy life anymore. What will happen to my letter box? I.. will be alone again." "Why do you think If I leave, I will never come again?" Red asked, holding his shirt in her hands. "Promise me." Lucifer said, putting his hand over hers. "I promise to return to you." Red smiled, moving her hand and holding his. Lucifer wrapped his arms around her, embracing her, "I don't want to lose you." You are more precious than my life to me. He whispered. "I am with you." She whispered back. Don't hurt yourself.
