Chapter 8

  • Samantha's POV
  • My heart skipped multiple beats as my eyes caught sight of the man in front of me. I quickly turned backwards with my back facing him.
  • "What to do? What to do?" I mumbled in fear.
  • There was nothing I could do, Cara was also as helpless as I was, if only I had shifted, things would have at least been different.
  • "Who are you and why are you here" his voice came but I remained fixed to the spot.
  • "I am asking you a question," he said but I still kept mute.
  • " What are you doing in here? Turn to me now!" He ordered but I did not attempt to hearken to his orders.
  • If he recognized me, that would be death for me too!
  • "I said to turn to me now!" He ordered, his voice growing impatient and his footsteps dangerously close.
  • "Stop" I heard Alpha Kayden's voice and for once his cold voice seemed to me like a saving grace.
  • "What are you doing here? Why are you trying to touch her?" He asked while I still kept my back to the both of them.
  • Kayden's POV
  • " Alpha Kayden" he bowed in respect and I responded with a slight nod.
  • "I am here to make sure you are perfectly okay, it is a great pleasure for the pack to have you here" he beamed with smiles.
  • " And as for trying to touch her..." He paused a moment to take a look at Mantha, with his index finger pointed at her.
  • "I was just trying to make sure she did not break into your room" he replied.
  • " She didn't. Leave" I mumbled the few words I had for him and he bowed slightly again, glanced at Mantha, a shade of curiosity clouding his face before he walked out.
  • "T... Thank you Alpha Kayden" Mantha mumbled, turning to look at me.
  • "Why are you hiding from him?" I asked but before I could say another word, I watched her body slip to the floor.
  • "Mantha" I called, my eyes widening slightly but she had fainted.
  • I crouched beside her and placed my fingers on her pulse, quite stable.
  • I carried her up from the tiled, floor where she was laying. Her body pressing against mine was quite good, she was the first lady in years that I'd carry in my arms.
  • I dropped her on the bed and moved over to the cellphone.
  • "Get a nurse over"
  • I returned to her bedside and stared at the creation of mystery on the bed. There were a lot of things shadowing her.
  • "Aren't we supposed to at least look for our mate at this party?" Jay asked.
  • " A quiet moment, can I have that Jay?" I requested.
  • " You're shutting me off? Don't get angry when I shut you off later on when you need me"
  • " Of course, you won't do that Jay. We make the best team"
  • " And that best team would no longer be if you don't find our mate" Jay mumbled but I ignored him this time around.
  • My gaze diverted back to the body of Mantha on the bed. She said she's an orphan, yet she wears nice clothes, she has scarred legs, the werewolf claimed to be her boyfriend yet no man would chase a lady through the woods if they do have any sort of romantic feelings for each other.
  • She is indeed a mystery, one I might be willing to take on to solve.
  • "I think she is a good one," Jay said, his voice gentle.
  • " You think so?" I asked.
  • "Of course! She looks like a gentle soul" Jay added and I sighed softly, standing up from beside Mantha.
  • A knock came on the door.
  • "In" I ushered in the nurse and she walked in, with her head bowed slightly.
  • "Good day sir" she greeted and I didn't bother giving any form of response to her greeting.
  • She walked over to where Mantha was while I sat back on the sofa. That was when I realized that I still had just my towel on, I wasn't even actually done bathing when I came out.
  • I got up from the sofa, deciding that I was done with my bathing. I put on a new set of clothes that had been prepared for me and sat back on the sofa, just in time to see the nurse finishing up.
  • I watched with careful eyes as she packed her things back into the huge box that she had brought along with her.
  • "She would be fine sir, she just needs a whole lot of rest and also sir... She would be sleeping for a very long time, I gave her some sleeping injections, it seemed like her sleep is being disturbed by something sir" she said.
  • "er... I would be taking my leave then sir" she added when she got no response from her previous words and turned to leave.
  • She got to the door before she halted.
  • "If anything does happen to disturb her sleep, kindly call me sir to give her the injection that I have dropped on the table sir" she added, opened the door and let out her slender structure through the door.
  • I rested back on the sofa and gently caressed my creased brows. I had gone through just enough stress and troubles today.
  • I took my eyes onto the sleeping figure on my bed. If she was homeless, then I could help her out with accommodation, I've got enough rooms.
  • I checked out my wristwatch, the time had struck midnight and I bet the party had come to an end.
  • I was going to have a short meeting with the other alphas on the issue of the wolf hunters but then no longer today when I feel fatigued already.
  • I created a mind-link with my beta.
  • "We'll be having a meeting tomorrow morning, I'd be expecting all alpha by 7 am. Tell all alphas to be there early"
  • I let out a small yawn and threw my head backwards. I was just about to doze off when I heard the creaking of the bed.
  • I opened my eyes to the sight of Mantha shaking her head while her eyes were still tightly shut indicating that she was still asleep.
  • "Gr... Granny" I heard her mumble something like that.
  • "What do I do with this?" I mumbled to myself as my eyes fell on the injection the nurse had left.
  • I grabbed it and without any more thoughts, I dug it into her arm.
  • She stopped shaking and her body plopped back to the bed peacefully but her lips still mumbled one more time;
  • "Granny"
