Chapter 30
- Louis sprinted to the door, but just as he thought salvation was within reach, a creak reverberated through the air. He fell back just in time when the heavy ceiling collapsed, sending a shower of debris and embers down the living room. He gasped for air as thick smoke filled his lungs.
- Still struggling to breathe, he grabbed a metal chair and swung it at the window like a baseball bat. Shards of glass erupted like a burst of stars. He dived out with one swift motion, the unconscious man still on his back.
- They both landed on the overgrown lawn.
