Chapter 7 Chapter seven

  • "Really?" I asked Mr Charles.
  • "Yes." He replied.
  • I can't believe that I, Dave, has already gotten the attention of the boss.
  • "Wow. How lucky am i?" I asked rhetorically.
  • "Very lucky." He answered anyway.
  • We both laughed.
  • We reached the office and he dropped me like before and went to park his car. I waited for him and we entered the company together.
  • I'm so happy that I have such good people around me.
  • Mr Charles went to his desk and I went to mine.
  • It didn't take take long before I was called by Mr Adams.
  • Thank goodness I came on time because by the look on his face, he isn't happy at all. Only God knows what he would have done to me if I was a second late.
  • "Dave!" He called.
  • "Yes sir." I answered as I rushed into his office.
  • "Take these papers and burn them outside!" He ordered.
  • I quickly collected the papers from him and ran outside to burn them. After I was done I went back to my seat.
  • Thank goodness there was a tea stand outside. I don't know where I could have gotten match sticks from.
  • "Hey." Mr Charles whispered to me.
  • I turned to him and he signalled me to come over. I stood up and went straight to his desk.
  • "Try not to offend the boss today. If he tells you to do anything make sure to do it right. He is in a very bad mood and you might get fired at this point." He said.
  • "Okay sir." I replied.
  • I wanted to go back to my desk but I just felt curious and needed to ask him why the boss is angry.
  • "Excuse me sir." I said to him.
  • "Yes?" He answered.
  • "If I may ask, what happened that made the boss so angry?" I asked.
  • "Well. The contract he had been waiting for for some months now isn't what he had expected. You wont understand Dave, it's business stuff." Mr Charles said.
  • "Okay sir." I responded.
  • "That reminds me. I got this for you and this for your mother." He said and handed me two boxes.
  • I opened the boxes immediately he gave them to me. I was shocked beyond limit. I can't believe he bought phones for I and my mother.
  • "Thank you sir." I said with excess joy written all over my face.
  • "You are welcome. It's the least I can do after I abandoned you here yesterday." He replied.
  • "You've been so nice to me sir. Right from day one." I said.
  • "You deserve it. You are such a good boy." He said.
  • I went back to my seat and turned on the phone. To my surprise, he already inserted sim cards for I and my mother. He is just the best. He already put his number in it and my mother's number too. And the the same with my mother's phone.
  • I wonder whose number I will have next in my phone.
  • "That's it. My beat friend Hilton has a phone of his own. I'll ask him for his phone number when I get the chance. It's been a very long time since I last saw him.
  • Ever since I got this job I don't even have time for him anymore. I miss him a lot.
  • I know what to do. I will just tell my mother that if she sees him she should get his number for me.
  • "Dave!" The boss yelled again.
  • "Yes sir." I said.
  • When I e entered the office a book flew right over my head. I ducked on time to dodge it and turned to see the boss's face.
  • "Get out! You are fired!" He yelled.
  • I was so shocked. I only just came in and I don't know what I must have done to upset him.
  • "But sir... What did I do?" I asked.
  • "Not you!" He said pointing at me.
  • "You!" He said as he diverted his finger to a man standing next to me.
  • "Call my Secretary." Mr Adams said to me.
  • I went outside and told Mr Charles that Mr Adams is in need of him.
  • Mr Charles stood up and left. I guess Mr Adams must have been too angry to use the telephone on his desk. Or maybe he was just so angry that he forgot about the telephone.
  • Later in the day, I found out that the man Mr Adams was shouting at is an employee which has squandered a large amount of the company's money on gambling.
  • I understand Mr Adams' reaction. I would be very angry if it was me.
  • About two hours after everything was handled, Mr Adams called me to his office. I went straight to is office and stood in front of him.
  • "You called for me sir?" I said.
  • "Yes, I did. I would like to apologize to you for what happened earlier. It's just that most times I don't have any control over my anger." He said.
  • "It's nothing sir. I understand. It will surely make me angry if someone wastes something I worked hard for." I replied.
  • "No it's not. I almost took off your head with that book." He replied.
  • "Really sir, no problem. I don't have anything against you." I said.
  • "You know what?" He asked.
  • "What sir?" I answered with a question.
  • "Let's go out and eat this evening. We will close early together." I said.
  • "But sir... " He said.
  • "No buts. I feel like I owe you a lot. And besides, Charles can handle everything while I'm gone." I cut him off.
  • "Okay sir. Since you insist." He replied.
  • "Yes I insist." I said.
  • I don't know why but I just seem to have a soft spot for this boy. Maybe because he is well behaved and he seemed decent enough. I just don't know. Perhaps it just came naturally to me.
  • Our usual closing time in the company is seven pm. Today I and Dave are leaving by six. I was very busy today and one our is all I could get out of my time.
  • I left Charles in charge and told Dave to follow me to my car.
  • We reached where the car was and entered. Soon enough we were on the way to a restaurant. Not the classy type though. I wanted Dave to feel free to laugh and speak up more. So I took him to a slightly local one. A fancy restaurant wouldn't work with what I have planned for us.
