Chapter 9 That's My Mother You're Talking About

  • “Yes, I’ve been changing carburetors since I was fifteen.”
  • He seemed impressed
  • “Hi there, is everything going okay over here.” My uncle said as he could see’s we were just staring at each other at this point. “Yes your mechanic here was telling me I need a new carburetor.” He said finally taking his eyes off of me to look at my uncle.
  • My uncle walks over to the car to inspect it. “Oh definitely need a new carburetor. My niece Kimmy here can do it for you.“
  • “Your niece.” He said with a smile. God what is this man thinking. “Well then she said about two hours. I can wait.”
  • “I mean if you want but that’s a long time to wait.” My uncle adds.
  • “I don’t mind.” He says with a smirk before looking back at me.
  • Fuck me. Now he’s going to wait and watch me. Fuck, good thing I can do this in my sleep. But I can’t help but feel that smirk says a lot more then a happy waiting customer.
  • “Pull it in over here.” I say pointing to an open spot in the garage. He nodded before getting back into his car. I close his hood for him and he pulls the car in.
  • “Pop the hood again. And turn the engine off.” He does both. And steps out of the car. “There’s some chairs over there where you can wait at.”
  • “But I would like to watch.” He says
  • “Sorry but you can’t. It’s a liability to have customers where we are working. Plus your engines still hot I have to let it cool before I can start working on it.”
  • He gives me a disapproving look before walking to the seats I gestured to him.
  • I work on another car in the mean time. That had been brought it in and needed a new air filter. He only left it because we told him we had a few cars before him. And he was rushing and didn’t mind leaving it. I changed out his cabin filter first before changing out the engine filter. The whole time I can feel eyes on me. But I ignored it. I eventually get to his car and more than halfway done when my uncles come’s over.
  • “I think he likes you” my uncle says.
  • “I can assure you he doesn’t.” I say honestly.
  • “Well he keeps staring at you like he does.”
  • “Maybe because I’m working on his car. Plus He’s got a girlfriend uncle Mike.”
  • “Oh. Well I guess that’s true. maybe I’m just seeing things.” He says as he starts to walk away.
  • “KIMBERLEE!”
  • Oh shit. I see my uncle freeze in place and heart beat speeds up. It’s Aunt Pearl. What the hell have I done now. And why of all days is it when Kazer’s here.
  • “Yes Aunt Pearl.” I say in the most nicest way I can muster up.
  • “What the fuck is this?” She asks waving something in her hand as she walked towards me and… well was uncle Mike until he scurried away. Thanks Uncle. Really appreciate it!
  • “Aunt Pearl we have a customer can we discuss this after I’m home.” Hoping she would but I knew she wouldn’t. When she was pissed at me she didn’t care where I was or when it was. She loved to make a mockery of me.
  • “Do I look like give a fuck! I asked what the fuck is this?”
  • I glance at her hand finally and see what she’s waving around and my heart drops as my eyes widen.
  • “That’s mine. You went through my room!” I yelled.
  • “Correction. My house, my room! My rules. And I told you I didn’t want a single fucking thing that has to do with that bitch in my house!” She yelled.
  • “That’s my mother you’re talking about.” I spat. Completely forgetting where I was and who was here. I didn’t care one fucking bit. The first thing my aunt made me do is get rid of all my personal belongings of my mother when I moved into her house. I managed to hide a few and put them in a box under my bed. One being the only photo of her I have left and the other being a necklace. I tried wearing it once and she spotted it in an instance. Being gold and not having a ton of money it stood out to her and told me to toss it. I told her I did but I just hid it in the box under my bed.
  • She was dangling the necklace along with the photo of my mother.
  • “I warned you.”
  • “Hunney! That’s…” my Uncle started but my aunt turned and gave him a look and he stopped speaking immediately.
  • “That’s the only things I have left of my mother! I got rid of everything else. Like you told me. It can’t possibly hurt you for me to have something so small. It’s all I have left of her. God she was your fucking sister! How could you hate her.”
  • “Because that bitch was a worthless whore. And your father was a pathetic piece of shit. You should know you were the one who found him dead! He didn’t even care about you enough not to kill himself.”
  • I just stood there in silence. I knew my dad was hurt from loosing my mom but it hurt more to think he gave up on me. Then I watched as she gripped onto the necklace and tossed it but before I could see where both of her hands went to my mother photo and tore it. My eyes filled will tears that I tried. Truly tried to hold back but I couldn’t.
  • “I warned you! If I find another thing of that bitch in my house. I will burn it! You live in my house. And you’re lucky you do! I’m all you have left in this world. So don’t piss me off!” She spat as she turned around and left.
  • I stood there watching her leave. Tears streaming down my face.
  • “Kim.” I heard my uncle. I could hear it in his voice.
  • I quickly whipped my tears and sniffled. “I’m fine.” I quickly said without giving him a glance. “I need to finish working!” and I went right back to work. I didn’t even bother to look over at Kazer. He was probably laughing at me.
  • I quickly finished working on his car and went over to my uncle and gave him Kazer’s keys. “It’s all done. Can you ring him up please. I need some air.” And I walked out back without another word. I went straight to the back of the lot where I kept my 1967 Shelby Mustang and sat on the hood. Pulled my legs up and pressed my face into my knees before pouring out every last drop of tears I needed to let out.
