Chapter 10 The Necklace

  • -Kazer
  • I can be ass. I can be a jerk. I can be a complete dick and especially to Lee Lee. But the moment I heard her name called by a lady and saw her reaction i knew something felt off. She immediately addressed her as aunt. And I just sat quietly back watching what I thought was a weird transaction between family members unfold. Before today I didn’t know a dam thing about Kimmy. She said so herself but right now in this moment I knew she was definitely right, I knew nothing about her. Until now. Now I’ve met her uncle, found out she works on cars and knows more shit about them than I do and now I’m watching her aunt yell at her dangling something in her hand.
  • I listen as she spats about not allowing something that belongs to a *bitch* in her house. But then Kimmy quickly retorts that the *bitch* she referring to is her mother. My attention is peaked at this point. I can see how angry Kimmy is. She fumming. And I know. I’ve seen her pissed plenty of times. Hell she was pissed earlier today because of Kelly. But this was beyond that. I kept listening to only to learn her mother’s gone and all but what her aunt’s dangling in front of her is what she has left of her late mother. Then I quickly learn her father’s also dead but worse she’s the one who found him dead and he apparently killed himself. Her aunt shoots out how he didn’t even care enough about her not to kill himself. God that was a low blow. That was lower than low.
  • I learn her aunts her mother’s sister. Quickly she tossing the necklace away from Kimmy but she doesn’t see it when her aunts hands go straight to what I heard was the only photo she had left of her late mother. And she ripped it. God that hurt me. I look down and I see the gold necklace and I grab it and hold it in my hand. I was going to give it back but I quickly hear her aunt say if she sees anything else of her mother’s she’d burn it. I look up finally to see Kimmy in tears as her aunts walks away.
  • God why do I feel pain for her right now. Even I think that was a bit too harsh and I’m always picking on her. It’s literally all I do. And now none of my jokes or schemes seem that bad to what I just heard her only family say and do to her.
  • Her uncle slowly walks over to her and she quickly fixers herself whipping her tears and telling him she’s fine and has to work. Without a glance my way she goes right back to my car and continues to work. I sat there just clenching onto the necklace. Not sure if i should give it back or not. After a while I finally see her close my hood and she walked over to her uncle and whispers something before she gives him my keys and hurries out the back of the shop. I push the necklace into my pocket and stand up.
  • “Sorry about that whole thing” her uncle says.
  • “Not a problem.” I quickly retort.
  • “It’ll be $350.” I hand him my dad’s card and wait for him to finish.
  • “Thank you. And thank your niece for me.” I say as he hands me back the card and my keys.
  • “I will.” He quietly says before I walk over to my car. I turn on the car only to feel it’s not shaking anymore. Seems perfect. Guess the girl really knows her stuff. I reverse the car out and head home.
  • I pull up in my driveway and before I even get out of the car I pull the necklace out of my pocket and stare at it. Even I wouldn’t be that big of a dick to lose this for her. I unclasp the end and put it on. Can’t loose it if I wear it. And maybe I can find a way to maybe make her see she can trust me enough to hold onto it for her. I mean I know she hates me. But does she know anyone else who can hold onto it.
  • I head on it and I go straight to my dad’s office to give him back the card.
  • “Did you get the car fixed?”
  • “Yeah it was the carburetor.”
  • “Oh Kimmy must have fixed it for you then.”
  • “You know Kimmy?”
  • “Oh of course sweet girl. Smart as hell when it comes to cars. She’s even building her own in the back of the shop. An old Mustang Shelby. Beautiful thing.“
  • “I didn’t know that.” That was pure honestly I didn’t know she was building a car and a Shelby at that. I only got a Mustang because I think the older models are the coolest. Some of my Favorite models were Shelby, which were extremely hard to come by, Cobras which was what I was looking at and the Fastback or Mach 1 which we had gotten lucky when an old friend of my dad decided to sell his to us. He was the only owner so it was a great deal. But older models need quite a bit of work. So I’m guessing hers needs a ton of work. But how she fixed my car today I’m sure she’ll build it nicely.
  • “Well she’s a quiet girl. So I guess how you are in school your paths probably have never cross. Pretty girl though. A lot prettier than Kelly.” He says not even looking up at me. He never has been a fan of Kelly. My mom either. I guess I can’t blame them. They want me to have the best. And that isn’t Kelly. I guess.
  • “Well I wanted to bring back your card and thank you.”
  • “Did you thank Kimmy?”
  • “She had to leave before I could.”
  • “We’ll make sure you find her tomorrow at school and thank her!”
  • “Yes sir.” Well I’ll try but after today she might hate me even more after being a witness to what happened. God talking to her might be harder than I think.
