• The plan was simple—attack from afar, cause as much chaos as possible, and give Su Yan the opening she needed. A direct confrontation was out of the question. The wolves were too many, and their own strength was far from enough to take them head-on.
• Zhang Rou and Jackson had fashioned bows and arrows, wrapping the arrows in cloth and lighting them ablaze. With steady hands, they fired into the resting grounds of the wolves. The first few arrows found their marks, sinking into fur and flesh. Then, as more arrows rained down, the fire spread like a hungry beast, licking at the dry grass and setting the encampment ablaze.
