Chapter 5 Kind Little Girl

  • What a shock! What an unfathomable shock!
  • Everyone was dumbfounded. Their mouths were wide open in shock—so wide that an entire egg could fit inside. Some even started to question what the heck had just happened.
  • "Ahem!" Jett covered his mouth and coughed softly, but the sound that reached everyone's ears was more akin to the ringing peals of a large bell going ding, ding, ding. It was deafening!
  • Only then did everyone recover from the incident just now.
  • They were shocked when they heard another strange thing.
  • "I know what you're thinking, Gabriel. You have three days to apologize to me in person with members of the Dickens family. Otherwise, you will suffer the consequences."
  • Jett spun on his heel and walked away after finishing his speech.
  • He vanished like a passing cloud, with no time for anyone to look up.
  • "What? He wants the Lacewell and Dickens families to come to apologize to him! Is he not worried about the two families taking revenge later?"
  • "I didn't mishear, did I? Those two families are two of Cleckherville's four great families."
  • "No, you didn't. That's precisely what he said."
  • Bernard trailed behind, frowning and asking, "Sir, why don't you settle it once and for all?"
  • "No! That would be far too easy for them! Waiting for death can be more terrifying than anything else."
  • Bernard finally got it. Then he looked down at his phone, which was vibrating, and smiled, saying, "Sir, for your convenience, I've asked someone to send a car over, and I've just received a message saying that our ride has arrived."
  • The pair made their way outside the Paladin International Hotel.
  • A man in a black T-shirt approached Bernard and handed him a key, saying, "Wolf Lord, the car has arrived as requested. It's parked at the next corner. Here's the key. It's all yours now!"
  • Bernard waved his hand, and the man vanished into the night.
  • After about fifty feet, there was an army green Raptor parked there.
  • Jett nearly swore out loud. We're not at war right now. Why did he bring such a big ass car out here? It's as big as a house! What? Is he worried that I won't have a place to live?
  • Bernard scratched his head in embarrassment and swore inwardly when he saw that big ass car.
  • What in the world was that brat thinking? I need to find a smaller car in the next few days.
  • Following that incident six years ago, the White family relocated to a more remote location. It would take approximately forty minutes to travel from here to there.
  • Jett sat in the back row of the car, pondering what he should say when they met for the first time in six years.
  • Bernard secretly laughed when he caught a glimpse of Jett in the rearview mirror. Bernard thought Jett appeared even more uneasy than when entering the battlefield when he saw his apparent restlessness highlighted by his twitchy brows and restless hands in the mirror.
  • The army's legend, the enemy's worst nightmare, was actually nervous.
  • "Vroom! Vroom! Vroom!"
  • Jett's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a roaring sports car zooming by. When he raised his head, he could see an Audi R8 racing past like a wild horse.
  • "Driving this fast at this time is courting death," Bernard swore vehemently.
  • Bernard looked up when he heard screaming.
  • He noticed a young girl leading an elderly lady across the road on the pedestrian path not far away.
  • The aftermath of the Audi R8 passing by at such a high speed would be inconceivable.
  • The man operating the Audi R8 didn't give a damn. It wasn't the first time he'd seen something like this. He assumed that as long as he floored the accelerator, he could avoid colliding with the two of them in the blink of an eye.
  • He picked up speed and sped off with a loud vroom.
  • However, the little girl who was holding the old lady's arm became terrified when she saw the oncoming speeding car. She stood there, unable to move her legs as if her feet were weighted down with lead.
  • What made matters worse was that the old lady was so terrified by the scene that she stumbled on the ground, trembling slightly.
  • It was a very critical situation.
  • The R8 only needed seven or eight seconds to reach them from about 100 feet. Those two would undoubtedly be killed if he didn't manage to avoid running into them at the time.
  • "Quick! Get up to speed!"
  • "Sir, do you want to?"
  • "Yes! I can't just stand by and watch them die before me." Jett sounded determined.
  • Bernard heeded his instruction and floored the accelerator, causing the car to roar.
  • It was not boastful to say that the Raptor performed well. It took off like an arrow shot from a bow.
  • Jett climbed out of the sunroof, his heart silently calculating.
  • Eighty feet!
  • Fifty feet!
  • Thirty feet!
  • "Enough! Stop!"
  • "Screeeeeech!"
  • After hearing the high-pitched noise generated by the tires' friction as they stopped on the ground, people became frightened for a while.
  • Bernard slammed on the brakes, causing the car to drift, and Jett was thrown from the sunroof, flipping several times in the air with graceful and neat movements.
  • As soon as he touched down, he helped the old lady up with one hand while carrying the little girl up with the other, then quickly took two steps back.
  • "Vroom!"
  • "Do you have a death wish? Don't drag me in if you want to die! You must be staging a car accident for money." When the Audi R8 drove by, there was a flurry of expletives coming from the vehicle.
  • A handful of cash was also thrown out the car's window, slowly falling to the ground.
  • Jett took them to the side of the road and let the little girl down.
  • Bernard had pulled over to the side of the road and got out of the car, saying, "Sir! Is everything okay with you?"
  • "I'm fine," Jett said lightly.
  • Bernard was aware, however, of how daunting the situation was.
  • The little girl patted her chest and took a deep breath. Her rosy cheeks flushed as she blinked her large eyes. She looked at Jett curiously and asked in a childish voice, "Uncle, are you Superman?"
  • The little girl was brought back to the moment her teacher told her the Superman story and described the scene where the superhero saved people.
  • Jett knelt down and lightly stroked the little girl's forehead.
  • If my child were still alive, would she also be about this tall?
  • It was clear that the little girl had good beauty genes, judging by her young and delicate face, perfectly arched brows, and straight and elegant nose.
  • Jett's heart suddenly throbbed. That little girl looked a lot like his wife.
  • No way! Impossible!
  • Jett then shook his head and exhaled, his face tinged with sadness.
  • "Uncle, the teacher said that superman saved people like this in the story. You must be a superhero!" The young girl regarded him with admiration.
  • Instead of answering, Jett asked with a smile, "Kiddo, what's your name?"
  • "My name is Mylah, Uncle Superman. I saw the old lady crossing the road by herself and wanted to help her, but I had no idea the car on the other side was going so fast with its headlights blazing. I became terrified... Thank goodness you're here!" Mylah stated this matter-of-factly.
  • Jett hummed and offered to take her home.
  • Even Jett, who was so used to fighting for his life in wars and never-ending bloodbaths, felt a little moved and had the sudden desire to want to take Mylah home after seeing how adorable she was.
  • "Okay! Okay! Uncle Superman is taking me home. My home is at the Cleckherville Welfare Home. Is it headed your way?"
  • "Welfare home! Hmmm? It's not a problem at all. I'm headed that way." Jett nodded after having a few reservations.
  • He turned around and uttered, "Help the elderly woman cross the street first, Bernard. I'll be waiting for you in the car."
  • Before they could take more than a few steps after Bernard had helped the elderly woman stand up, she passed out.
  • They decided to take her to the nearest hospital right away.
  • Sebastian Dickens thumped his chest in anguish as he stared at his dead son at the Paladin International Hotel. Given his advanced age, he felt as though a sharp rasp had savagely cut open his chest.
  • His sad eyes suddenly gave way to ones filled with rage and murderous intent. "Jett, I, Sebastian Dickens, swear I will never forgive you in this life. I'm going to tear you apart and skin you alive..."
  • Meanwhile, the three of them waited outside the emergency room of Second People's Hospital of Cleckherville twenty minutes later.
  • Not long after, a bunch of individuals walked over in a raucous manner.
  • "Nurse, was it they who brought my mother here?" As he asked, the leader, Jude Dickens, pointed to Jett and the others. His tone was not friendly, and his voice was loud.
  • "Yes, sir. Please be quiet. This is a hospital," reminded the nurse gently.
  • "It has nothing to do with you!" Jude rudely shoved the nurse out of the way and went over to Jett.
  • "Tell me! Did you scare my mother? My mother is getting on in years. If something were to happen to her, you all had better be careful." Jude made a scathing remark.
  • "Uncle, it's not like that at all. The old granny fainted suddenly. We didn't scare her." Mylah noticed Jude's unreasonable behavior and stepped forward to defend Jett.
  • Jude had a fierce expression on his face. He pushed Mylah away and yelled, "You little liar! Go away!"
  • Mylah's thin, light frame became unsteady, and she lost her footing and fell. Blood was gushing from her head as it hit the chair, and she eventually passed out.
  • Jett exploded in rage when he saw Mylah was hurt. With rage burning in his eyes, he struck him in the face with a powerful blow.
  • Following that, he quickly picked up Mylah and said, "Nurse, the child has passed out. Examine her to see if anything is wrong."
  • Jude got slapped so hard that he became dizzy. "Son-of-a bitch! You dare strike me. I'll make it so that you won't even want to live!"
