Chapter 2 I’m Back, Everything Will Be Fine

  • Cleckherville Airport the following day at 11 in the morning. The summer heat was almost unbearable.
  • Uncle, Chloe, I’m back. I shall deal with everything once and for all in Cleckherville.
  • “We’ve arrived, General Grayson! There’s a birthday banquet tonight for the head of the Lacewell family, Gabriel, for his 50th birthday. It will be held at the Paladin International Hotel and they’ve invited Cleckherville’s distinguished figures to join,” Bernard immediately reported his findings to Jett.
  • “Good job and what great timing! You don’t have to be formal since we’re outside. Just call me Mr. Grayson or sir.”
  • “Yes, sir. Since the attendees will be the four great families, I don’t think you should waste your effort on them. Just give me the order and I’ll kill them all within 24 hours.” Hidden Wolf’s lips twitched in anticipation as he replied.
  • Jett shook his head, his cold demeanor had a sense of determination as he spoke, “This is a family affair so it is my responsibility to resolve it!”
  • Bernard lowered his head and replied, “Roger!”
  • “One more thing, help me prepare a special gift!” Jett ordered before getting a cab and headed back to his house.
  • ……
  • Riverside District - a small and old neighborhood in Cleckherville.
  • Last year, Astor’s company was destroyed and his assets were looted away from him, leaving nothing but an old house. Jett walked out of the cab and looked around. The trees had grown taller, making it the perfect resting spot for the summer, thanks to its shadow. The district also looked more dilapidated as peeled off walls and cracks became the evidence of the district’s old age.
  • Jett’s uncle, who treated him like his own, never married or worked to take care of him. After much persuasion from Jett, his uncle finally adopted a daughter. He was 18 while his newly adopted sister, Kimberley Lang, was 13. Kimberley was particularly happy to have a brother so she followed him like a little shadow of his. Time passed, and six years had gone by. Many things, or perhaps everything, had changed since then.
  • Jett had a bitter smile on his face and quickly shook his head to cast these thoughts out of his mind. He strode confidently into the neighborhood. Although he had not been back for six years, he still found his way home with ease. His time in the military had turned him into a stern-looking man, which he realized while walking to his home. He quickly put up a warm smile on his face to replace his imposing aura with a friendly one, as if he was simply a wanderer returning home.
  • Once Jett had arrived, he raised his right hand and knocked on the door.
  • “Who is it?” A chirpy and sweet voice could be heard from the house.
  • Not long after, the door opened. A woman of slender figure and innocent looks appeared before Jett, yet she looked somewhat tired and worried. She did not recognize Jett at first but still quickly regained her composure and politely asked, “Who are you looking for?”
  • On the other hand, Jett immediately recognized that the lady was his sister, Kimberley, and he was not surprised by her reaction. His face might not have changed for the past six years, but he had become buff and his skin was tanned. Besides, she would not have thought that her brother would suddenly appear before her.
  • “Kimberley! It’s me, your brother Jett.” Jett’s words hit Kimberley like a truck as she froze. Her eyes widened and stared at Jett. It took her a while to react and started crying before throwing herself into Jett’s arms.
  • “Jett, is that really you? You’re back! I’m not dreaming, am I?”
  • Jett gently stroked her hair and smiled. “Silly girl, you’re not dreaming. I’m back! Also, where are your manners? You’re clinging onto me like a child!”
  • Never in a million years did Kimberley think that she would see her brother again. Jett’s incident was the talk of the town back then. It was said that Jett had robbed and violated a female driver. With both physical and testimonial evidence pointing to him, he was arrested on the spot.
  • Kimberley wanted to visit him but could not find any information about her brother, when in truth it was because his uncle did not tell her the truth. Everyone assumed that Jett would spend the rest of his life in prison, but only his uncle and him knew that he was never there from the start.
  • “No, I’ll always be the silly little girl in your eyes.” Kimberley shrugged and hugged Jett tightly.
  • Her soft chest was pressed against Jett, making him feel awkward. He quickly changed the topic. “How’s uncle Astor? Let me see him!”
  • Hearing him mentioning about her father, Kimberley suddenly began to cry.
  • “Jett! Dad- Dad’s legs are broken.”
  • “Let me see him.”
  • Kimberley brought him before Astor’s bed and he felt his heart squeezed once he saw his uncle’s condition. Was that person really his uncle? Jett knelt down with a thump. A few years had gone by, the once tall and imposing man became a pale and skinny old man, like a candle flickering in the wind, ready to pass away at any moment. Jett knew that he had to quickly summon Greg Dorian, a miracle doctor, for help. He hurriedly took out his phone and sent a message to Bernard.
  • “Please forgive me, uncle! I’m late!” He then apologized to Astor.
  • As if hearing someone calling out for him, Astor struggled to open his eyes. The moment he saw Jett, the old man cried tears of joy. He thought that he would never see Jett again.
  • “Oh, Jett, is that you? You’re back. I’m happy that you’re back. Let me have a good look at you.” Astor lifted his bony hand to touch Jett’s face. “Wonderful! I’ll make you your favorite chicken soup tonight.”
  • His pale face twisted with pain and sweat beads started to form on his forehead as he tried to sit up in bed. Every move was tormenting him. Perhaps he was overly excited, he had forgotten that he could not stand up and cook anymore. Kimberley's eyes welled up with tears as she felt her heart break at the sight.
  • “Come here and help me up! I’m making chicken soup for your brother!” Astor said, but tears kept flowing down from the corners of his eyes.
  • Suddenly, the door was kicked open with a bang and a group of gangsters walked in with Elliot Hall in the lead. He had blonde hair and a set of yellowish teeth, and was a powerful gangster in the area.
  • “Kimberley Lang, we’re here to collect the house! Get out of here now if you don’t want to make this worse!” Elliot exclaimed arrogantly.
  • “Please give us a few more days, Elliot. I’ve been looking for a house for the past few days. Can you give me another week?” Kimberley immediately went forward to plead.
  • “Bullsh*t! It’s been five days! Unless… hehe!” Elliot was about to hit Kimberley but upon seeing her lovely face, he changed his mind and reached out to touch her face while leering at her. Suddenly, a big hand stopped him from touching Kimberley.
  • “Bastard, who the heck are you? Get out of my face or we’ll beat you up!” Elliot roared at Jett.
  • Before he could even finish talking, his arm was twisted by someone with great force. His elbow was broken after two cracks! Then, another kick landed on him, sending him flying like a football. A cloud of dust formed at where he landed.
  • “Ugh!” Elliot wrinkled his face in pain and screamed, “What are you standing there for? Get him!”
  • His lackeys immediately rushed forward.
  • “Jett, don’t. They’re under Rolf Dickens,” Kimberley said worriedly. She knew that Rolf had been trying to get her by all means even if she refused his advances, so he often sent people to harass her.
  • “Whack! Bang!”
  • In two moves, Jett knocked Elliot’s lackeys out and trembling in fear.
  • “Scram! No one can bully my sister!” Jett asserted.
  • The lackeys quickly picked Elliot up and fled from the scene.
  • “Kimberley, what happened to the house?”
  • Kimberley sobbed. “I’m useless, Jett. I spent all my savings to treat dad and I had no choice but to mortgage the house to them! They must’ve been sent by Rolf.”
  • Jett wiped the tears off Kimberley’s face and softly said, “It’s okay, I’m back. Everything will be fine.”
