• Dom set the quarterly projections on the desk hard enough to make the edge of the folder snap against the wood.
• Alex looked up from the screen he had been studying without absorbing. The office was quiet at this hour, the usual morning traffic of assistants and junior analysts still only beginning to filter through the floor. Outside the glass the city moved under a flat gray sky.
• “You’ve approved the same staffing revision three times,” Dom said. “Once yesterday, twice this morning. The third version is identical to the first.”
