• After all the staff had gathered, the air thick with apprehension, he leaned forward then cleared his throat, his voice firm but laced with discomfort.
• "I called you all here today because I have made a difficult decision, which is very necessary, considering the situation at hand. I have made up my mind to let you all go. Effective immediately. Your services will no longer be required." As he spoke, he tried to avoid looking into any of their faces. He didn't want to see the looks of hurt and shock that would stick with him and haunt him.
• The room fell silent, shock and disbelief etched in their faces. Some exchanged worried glances. Others looked down, their eyes immediately beginning to well with tears.
