- Ariel didn't look at him. She walked past him toward the stairs. “Nothing. I’m just tired, Daniel. I had a long day at the library.”
- Daniel set his glass down on the side table and followed her. “You’ve been saying you’re ‘just tired’ for a while now. Ariel, I’m not an idiot. This is clearly more than just being tired. You’re pale, you’re shaking, and you look like you’re about to collapse. What is going on? Please, just tell me.”
- Ariel stopped on the first step and spun around, her eyes flashing with anger. “Why does everyone keep asking me that? My mom, Stacy, you… everyone! I am fine! Can’t a person just be stressed without everyone acting like it’s the end of the world?”
