• The minutes had crawled by, each one seeming to last an eternity as my eyes scanned the desolate streets, searching for any sign of her presence. My body was tense, every nerve on edge, ready to spring into action the moment I caught a hint of her. I wanted to breathe in the sweet scent of her skin, feel the softness of her curves against me. My inner wolf was in agony, clawing at the cage of my ribs, desperate to reunite with his mate.
• Every second without her was like a dagger to the heart. The thought of her slipping away, out of my grasp, was unbearable.
