Chapter 7 Good For Nothing

  • “Oh? Who is it?” Xavier's voice was icy-cold.
  • “Your cousin!”
  • “Oh, you mean Zyon,” scoffed Xavier.
  • Baffled by Xavier's reaction, Josiah inquired, “Why aren't you surprised at all? He stayed overseas for so long that I thought he had already moved there.”
  • “There's no way a coward like him could stay out there for long. He just came back yesterday, but he's already at Garland Group now.”
  • Josiah got even more curious when he heard that. “My guess is that he came back to laugh at you for marrying a mentally challenged woman. However, if I was right, he should've gone to your house. Why would he go to Garland Group instead?”
  • “Why else? Grandpa transferred eight percent of the shares to my wife, an outsider, instead of him. It's only natural that he's mad.”
  • “Well, then I'd say he's digging his own grave,” sneered Josiah. “He probably has no idea that we're close to getting to the bottom of the car accident. When we find the last witness, he'll be done for. Since our municipal laws don't apply to him if he's hiding overseas, he just served himself up on a silver platter by coming back.”
  • “We're in no hurry. Let's deal with the mole first.” Based on how good he is, I'm pretty confident that he has spies in our mansion. You should be careful at Garland Group as well,” reminded Xavier in a serious tone.
  • “Sure.” After hanging up, Josiah drove his car forward so it would be easier for him to conduct his observation.
  • At that moment, Kylie just so happened to bump into Zyon as she hurried out of the Garland Group office building.
  • The woman was upset because she had just had a hard time in Hamish's office, so she roared at Zyon, “Are you blind or something?”
  • Zyon was a trust fund baby who never had anyone speak to him like that before. Naturally, he did not appreciate Kylie's tone. “You're the blind one here!” he retorted after pushing Kylie.
  • Kylie had no idea who Zyon was, but Hamish immediately recognized the man.
  • “Aren't you Mr. Zyon? To what do we owe the pleasure?” inquired Hamish before pushing Kylie forward. “Quickly! Apologize to Mr. Zyon for how rude you were just now.”
  • However, Kylie refused to comply. “Dad! All I did was use my words, but he pushed me. Did you not see that? This is our territory, so why should I apologize to him? Is something wrong with you?”
  • “Shut up! You're being disrespectful.” Hamish had no choice but to apologize to Zyon on his daughter's behalf since she would not do so.
  • Zyon narrowed his eyes at the man. “You must be Hamish Garland, my cousin's father-in-law.”
  • “That's right. I am,” responded Hamish sheepishly, afraid of offending a Fairchild.
  • Zyon glanced at Kylie and snorted. “I guess that makes her my cousin-in-law then.”
  • He then held his chin as he sized up Kylie before adding, “That can't be right because from what I've heard, she's supposed to be a dumbass with the mind of a child!”
  • “No, no, no. You've mistaken her for my eldest; this is my second daughter. My eldest, your cousin-in-law, is at the back.”
  • With that, Hamish pulled Winnie, who was enjoying her candy, to his side.
  • Winnie had an excellent memory, so she remembered everything she read about Zyon in the files about the Fairchild family. This guy is the eldest son of the Fairchild family, but since he was born to the family head's second wife, he's not considered to be next in line. The man's good for nothing. Besides filling his head with women, all the sluggard does is think about how to inherit his family's wealth. He's probably involved in Xavier's car accident.
  • Zyon froze in place when he saw Winnie because he could not help but be stunned by her beauty.
  • He did nothing to hide his lecherous gaze, and it made Winnie incredibly uncomfortable.
  • “Daddy, I'm scared. I don't know this person.” Winnie quickly hid behind Hamish like a frightened puppy.
  • As soon as Winnie spoke, disappointment was written all over Zyon's face. She really is mentally handicapped! It's a shame because she has such a beautiful face and body.
  • Still, that did not stop Zyon from admiring the woman.
  • “So, your name is Winnie? That's a nice name. You don't have to be afraid of me; I'm your husband's cousin, which makes me kind of like a brother to you,” he explained with a devious smile.
  • “No! I don't have a brother.” Winnie tightened her grip on Hamish's arm, utterly disgusted by Zyon.
  • Then, she suddenly began to scream, “No! I don't have a brother because he died in Mommy's tummy! Mommy said she'll haunt the people who killed my brother and make them pay!”
  • Zyon immediately lost interest in Winnie when she started to howl like a mad woman.
  • At that moment, both Hamish's and Yara's faces turned grim since they were the ones who killed the fully-formed fetus his ex-wife bore.
  • Because of jealousy, Yara used an extremely cruel method to end the child's life. Hence, she was fear-stricken after listening to Winnie, terrified that she would be haunted by a ghost as the young woman said.
  • Winnie was more than glad to see how scared the couple was, but at the same time, she felt sad for her late mother.
  • Yara was the one who brought Winnie out. However, she decided to leave Winnie behind because she had had enough with the young woman.
  • In the end, Hamish had to send Winnie home.
  • On the way back to the Fairchilds' mansion, he called his team. “Zyon came over today to ask for the eight percent shares, but I rejected him. I told him they were for my daughter, but he obviously didn't buy that. I don't think he'll give up so easily.”
  • After pausing for a while, he continued, “Yes, the contract has been destroyed, so I'll have to figure a way out to have my daughter get another copy from Old Mr. Fairchild.”
  • Hamish then paused again before inquiring, “Really? We got the deal for the project? Wonderful! This is wonderful news! You've done so much for Garland Group over the past two years, and I, too, wish this is only the beginning.”
  • Hamish's frown suddenly turned upside down after the phone call.
  • Winnie pretended to be asleep, but she heard every word of the conversation.
  • My, my! Somebody's business is doing well. I can't have that, though. There's no way I'm going to allow Hamish to live a happy life. Never! It's time for a change at Garland Group. I'm also a Garland, so I don't see anything wrong with me taking over. With that thought in mind, Winnie slowly broke into a smirk.
