Chapter 601 In Denial

  • "Because we are illegitimate children, our existence poses a threat to the lawful wife. Our mother, powerless and without rights, had to fight tooth and nail just to protect one child. The son of the lawful wife was ill, and it was said that the cord blood of the unborn illegitimate child was to be taken away. If the child were fortunate enough to survive, he would also have to provide bone marrow for the sickly one. Our mother pleaded with that man on her knees for us to be allowed to be born. However, she didn't dare to tell him that she gave birth to twins. Thus, that man only gave us one name, one assurance. Hence, from a young age, my younger brother and I shared a single identity. We were both called Yosef. He was Yosef on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and I took on the role on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The remaining day was decided by a coin toss. Sounds absurd, doesn’t it? However, this is the life my brother and I lived. We strive to maintain the same persona. When we returned home each night, we would report to each other about everything that happened during the day. We spared no details. We couldn't afford to. Like that, we shared a single identity for over a decade. However, we were two different individuals. Thus, as we aged, the differences between us became increasingly pronounced. My younger brother has a much gentler temperament, but I'm not like him. I don't have as much patience and often make mistakes. My mother began to realize this wasn't working, so she sent us abroad to study." Yuvan paused for a moment.
  • Then, he continued, "Of course, both my younger brother and I are very intelligent. We got into the best schools and became your seniors. In fact, I didn't want to share a name with him even then. I was ready to be myself, and for several months, we didn't switch identities. Ironically, it was during that time that he met you. Win, you were so captivating that you instantly attracted me. Of course, you also attracted my younger brother. Although my brother and I have different personalities, our tastes and aesthetics are similar. My brother likes you, and I like you too, so we've started to maintain the same persona again. Back then, you seemed to like us a lot too. Our collaboration was seamless, and even though we spent a lot of time together during that period, you didn't seem to notice anything unusual. I must admit, the time the three of us spent together was truly joyful. My brother and I were actually feeling quite down, but your presence healed us. Both my brother and I love you very much. However, the day you abandoned my younger brother, you could have saved him and others, but you didn't. You watched him die with your own eyes. You've given up on us! Do you know how much it hurt me when our brother died? I felt like I was about to die too."
  • He growled, "I was following you from a distance, watching everything unfold before my eyes. Winnie, you are the murderer. It was you who killed Yosef, you who killed my brother, you who killed me! Over the years, whenever I think of my younger brother, I can't sleep. What about you? Have you thought of us over these years? Do you still remember Yosef? My brother and I love you so, so much, yet you did this! It's only been six years, and I haven't been able to let go of you, yet you're already married. Don't you have nightmares at night?"
