• We’re in my room and Bella sat across from me, pale and distant. She hadn’t said a word since we’d come into the room. Her hands rested in her lap, her eyes fixed somewhere, lost in thought. It was as though she was here physically, but her mind was wandering, far away.
• “Bella?” I finally spoke up, breaking the silence. She didn’t react immediately, like she hadn’t heard me, so I leaned forward slightly tugging at her arms. “Bella, are you okay?”
