Chapter 8 Winning His Heart
- Blair went back to the Lennons' reluctantly, unable to come up with a good excuse for Zachary to sign the contract even after mulling over it throughout the journey.
- She saw Ms. Cox and Susan discussing something in whispers when she entered the villa.
- "Grandma?"
- "Hey Blair, come help Ms. Cox." Susan beamed at her as if she was a lifesaver.
- Blair approached confusedly. "Ms. Cox?"
- Ms. Cox looked anxious. "Ms. Blair, old Mrs. Lennon is insistent on trying a trendy fried rice recipe. I can't do it properly even after all this time. Can you help?"
- Blair glanced at the dish. "I can take care of it. May I?"
- Susan's eyes lit up even more. "Blair, you can cook?"
- Blair had learned to fend for herself from a young age, so cooking wasn't a problem.
- Although many thought she grew up with the Piersons, few knew she had spent her childhood in an orphanage.
- "Don't worry, Grandma, I'll change and be right back."
- "No rush. Make enough so Zach can try it, too. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. I bet Zach will like you more after tasting your cooking."
- Blair hadn't thought of that. If Zachary enjoyed her cooking, it might open the door to negotiating the contract with him.
- "Grandma, you really are my lifesaver."
- Relieved, Blair hugged Susan before rushing up the stairs to change.
- She enthusiastically set the table with an array of dishes, eagerly waiting for Zachary to come home.
- The maid was impressed. "I never knew Ms. Blair was so talented. Mr. Zachary is really lucky."
- "I chose my daughter-in-law myself; of course, she's an excellent candidate. Come here, Blair." Susan waved Blair over, praising her.
- Just then, Zachary came in. "Grandma, why are you so happy?"
- He gave Blair a long look, curious about how she constantly managed to please Susan.
- "Zach, you're home. Go wash up and have dinner with us."
- Zachary didn't need any urging to eat as Blair was already serving him eagerly.
- "Try this." Blair eyed him with anticipation.
- He looked reluctant but then shot a glance at Susan and took a bite.
- "How is it?" asked Susan eagerly.
- It differed from his usual meals but was quite tasty.
- Zachary nodded. "Is this Ms. Cox's new recipe?"
- "I can't take the credit; Ms. Blair made all of this."
- Blair made it?
- He stared at his plate with shock, and Blair quickly heaped more on it after seeing his expression.
- He gave her a curious look. She's acting suspicious today. What is she plotting?
- She just smiled back, wondering if her efforts today could win him over.
- They polished off the food while distracted by their own musings.
- When they returned to their bedroom, he questioned, "What did Grandma want to talk to you about?"
- Blair was focused on finding the contract and found the question weird. "Uh...about what?"
- Thinking Blair was just playing along for Susan's sake, Zachary felt a pang of annoyance. Whatever you do is pointless. We'll be divorced in three months."
