Chapter 5 The Urge to Taste Her

  • Cold impatience simmered in Zachary's voice, even chillier than before.
  • "Well, I just want to remind you to drink your coffee while it's hot. Cold coffee isn't good for your stomach."
  • Cold coffee isn't good for your stomach? He had never heard of such a saying before.
  • A mocking smile curled at his lips. "If you have something to say, just say it. There's no need to beat around the bush."
  • Blair knew her excuse was flimsy, so she got straight to the point. "I want to go back to the Piersons."
  • "You don't need to report such things to me. We have a contract. I don’t care about the rest as long as you stick to it." His eyebrows furrowed, clearly showing his displeasure.
  • Blair took a deep breath and quietly asked, "Can you come with me?"
  • Their marriage was just a transaction. He had no obligation to accompany her to the Piersons. She knew her request was unreasonable, but she had to try for Tammy.
  • Zachary threw his pen aside. "Woman, are you demanding me?"
  • "No, I didn't mean that. It's just that we just got married, and if I go back alone, people might gossip. If word reaches Grandma's ears..."
  • Blair's chin was gripped firmly as the man glared at her fiercely. "Blair, how dare you use Grandma to threaten me?"
  • Such a shameless woman. I still can't fathom what Grandma sees in her.
  • His gaze was dark and deep, as if they could draw a person in completely.
  • Fear. It was a profound and all-consuming fear.
  • Sensing danger, Blair instinctively wanted to retreat, but with her chin firmly clasped in his grip, she found herself unable to take a single step.
  • "No. I'm not threatening you," said Blair in a pained voice. Her eyes were already brimming with tears.
  • Like the rumors had it, this man was indeed heartless. Her little ploy was utterly foolish. She wouldn't have spoken at all if she had known it would come to this.
  • Zachary stared at the woman before him. Her delicate face was tinged with pink, tears about to fall, full of fear and grievance.
  • Her trembling lips looked like ripe cherries, tempting him to take a bite.
  • He felt a surge of heat, and his breathing quickened. His Adam's apple was bobbing ever so slightly.
  • This uncontrollable urge again. Zachary frowned.
  • How can I desire a woman like her? He felt a surge of irritation.
  • "Get out."
  • As soon as he released her, Blair bolted from the study. She feared that even a second's delay might make him change his mind.
  • This is too scary. He is completely unreasonable. What now? Zachary will not accompany me back to the Piersons. How can I convince him?
  • She returned to the dining room, deep in thought. Soon, Zachary followed.
  • Miss Cox served breakfast.
  • Still shaken from the earlier encounter, she avoided sitting next to him. Instead, she chose to sit beside Susan.
  • Susan glared at Zachary since she sensed that he didn't want to sit next to Blair. "Zachary, sit beside your wife."
  • Blair's shoulders tensed, her heart trembling with fear. Why is this happening now?
  • Susan held her hand. "Blair, what do you like to eat? I'll let Zachary get it for you."
  • Before Blair could respond, Zachary said, "Grandma, she has fully capable hands."
  • "Shut up. You will get the food for her if I say so. Blair, what do you want to eat?" Susan smiled at her.
  • Blair, needing a favor from Zachary, couldn’t dare trouble him. So, she quickly said, "I'll get it for Zachary instead. What would you like to eat?"
