Chapter 8 Divine-level Fighter

  • Zachary's arrogance made everyone utterly stunned, including Bennett.
  • Everyone knew who Bennett was. He was an assistant instructor of the state military's special force and had joined Wolverine for tough training for three years. Once defeating the national combat arts champion with only one kick, Bennett had achieved numerous deeds of merit throughout his career and was a major at such a young age. He was such a high-flyer.
  • What about the grandmaster-level fighter that he mentioned?
  • It was one of the levels in the Chanaean fighters' combat skill system. The system was established to differentiate the fighters' ability in combat skills.
  • There were five levels in the Chanaean fighters' combat skill system—the beginner, intermediate, elite, grandmaster, and divine levels.
  • Beginner-level fighters were fighters who had started learning combat skills for one month to one year. These people possessed the basic skills. Their speed and strength were above ordinary people's. Therefore, they could beat ordinary people with ease. Intermediate-level fighters were those who had learned combat skills for one to three years. They usually started practicing more difficult combat skills, as they had conquered the basic skills and could beat beginner-level fighters or three to seven ordinary people effortlessly.
  • Elite-level fighters were the cream of the crop among the fighters, and they could defeat a dozen ordinary people at once. Grandmaster-level fighters were those who were capable of establishing their own clans and teaching others combat skills. Also, they were strong enough to safeguard a territory of their own. Their combat skills were of an extraordinary level. They could beat thirty to fifty ordinary people at once. They were as strong as those heroes that one could find in the superhero movies.
  • Bennett was a grandmaster. He was a medium-class grandmaster, to be specific. His ranking was in the middle among all the grandmasters.
  • If Bennett ever wanted to teach someone a lesson, everyone would try their best to talk him out of it. Because of his strong fighting capability, it was always an easy win for him, regardless of who he was fighting.
  • However, to their surprise, Zachary had the guts to say that Bennett, a powerful fighter, was no match for him.
  • Indeed, Zachary had managed to take down thirteen wanted fugitives who had been on the run for ten years in one day. However, that achievement of his could only prove that he was a capable man, but that did not prove that he was skilled in combat arts. On the contrary, Bennett was so powerful that his opponent would surrender upon hearing his name. Everyone present reckoned that Zachary was too full of himself when he made such an absurd claim.
  • Amused by Zachary's arrogant behavior, Bennett curled his lips into a smirk, and the fighting spirit burned in his eyes.
  • Bethany immediately pulled Zachary's hand, urging him to leave with her. “Are you crazy? How dare you say that Bennett is not your match? Do you know who he is? I grew up with him, and no one knows him better than I do. He is a fitness maniac who practices combat skills like a madman. Many people failed to become a grandmaster even after they had practiced combat skills for their whole lives. However, Bennett managed to become a grandmaster in only seven or eight years. Perhaps you have learned some combat skills, but his fighting ability is definitely beyond your imagination. I'm sure you'll have to eat your words after witnessing his ability. You'll regret making such a remark. You can't fight him. I'll take you with me,” she whispered.
  • Zachary shook his head, refusing to leave. He said with a calm look, “He's no match for me.”
  • “What?” Clarence's and the police captain's faces fell as they noticed Zachary's persistence.
  • The mockery in Bennett's eyes intensified.
  • “I guess he just doesn't want to be belittled by the others.” After giving it some thought, Clarence immediately persuaded Zachary, “Listen to me. You can't fight Bennett. You're no match for him, for he is a professional fighter. Don't be fooled by his lean body. His body underneath his clothes is very muscular. You have a rather well-built figure, but you're not going to outfight him. With your capabilities, you can be a good detective, even without good combat skills. There's no point in going head to head with him. You may leave now. After claiming your bounty, you may report yourself at the police station. We want you on our team.”
  • Zachary shook his head gently. “The strength of a grandmaster has nothing to do with his body shape or body composition. Instead, the vital energy in his body plays an important role. Bennett is indeed capable, but his vital energy is scanty. I think he barely passed the medium-class threshold of grandmaster-level, so he's no match for me.”
  • “Zachary, I'm surprised that you know something about vital energy. Since you think that my vital energy is scanty and I'm no match for you, may I know what level of fighter you are? Medium-class of grandmaster-level? Or upper-class?” Bennett couldn't help but laugh.
  • Hearing that, Zachary smiled without replying to Bennett.
  • The police captain couldn't stand it any longer. He hurriedly walked up to Zachary and started pushing the latter away. “Why are you so stubborn? Just go when you're still able to. I've witnessed Bennett's combat skills before. Unquestionably, he's an expert. You're no match for him. Hurry and leave this place now.”
  • He didn't want Bennett to injure Zachary. Zachary could report to work the next day if he walked away now, but if Bennett hurt him, he could only report to work three months later.
  • “All right, then. I'll go. Coincidentally, I'm still recovering from some internal injuries. It's difficult for me to control my arms' strength. I might hurt Bennett unintentionally,” Zachary said resignedly as a few more police officers came over to push him away. He then walked toward his small truck.
  • Tobias, who stood aside, remained silent.
  • No one knew Zachary's identity except Tobias. He knew Zachary was a world-class top fighter who had survived many deadly battles. If Zachary took the fight seriously, even a powerful fighter like Bennett wouldn't stand a chance. Tobias was eager to witness Zachary's combat skills. However, he didn't want Zachary to showcase his combat skills, as he was worried Clarence would be even more adamant in recruiting Zachary. He felt torn and had mixed feelings over it.
  • Suddenly, Bennett held out a bank card. “Zachary, don't you love money? Here are my savings that I've accumulated over the past ten years. There's a total of five hundred thousand. If you can defeat me, it's all yours.”
  • Zachary's contempt had triggered Bennett's fighting spirit.
  • He decided not to let Zachary leave.
  • Some police officers looked at Bennett bewilderedly. Bennett let out a laugh and said, “Don't worry. I know when to stop. I won't hurt him.”
  • “Are you serious about fighting me?” Zachary turned around instantly, fixing his gaze on the bank card in Bennett's hand.
  • “Yes,” Bennett answered smilingly.
  • “All right. I'm in!” Zachary pushed through the people surrounding him at once.
  • You should have mentioned earlier that I can earn money from fighting you! Earlier, Natalie had thrown away his bank card, and he couldn't report his lost card in the meantime due to his identity. Therefore, at that moment, he was financially constricted despite owning lots of money overseas. He was desperately finding ways to earn money, so he wouldn't let go of any opportunity to earn money.
  • Zachary was worried that Bethany, Clarence, and the others would try to stop them. Therefore, he quickly hopped aside and waved at Bennett. “Bennett, come on. Now is the best time for us to fight. We'll miss our chance if they lunge at us and stop us.”
  • “Haha. Don't regret your decision.” With a laugh, Bennett made a light scratch on the tar road with his right leg, and his kick was aimed at Zachary like an arrow.
  • Bethany stomped her feet angrily after failing to stop Zachary. “Bennett, have mercy on him!” Growing up, she was used to seeing men getting into fights. At that moment, she knew the matter had gone out of control. All she could hope was for Bennett to show some mercy. Pride can get people into trouble.
  • “D*mn it!” Clarence felt hot under the collar, unable to comprehend Zachary's lack of discernment.
  • The police captain smiled bitterly, feeling helpless. Soon, Zachary will know how strong Bennett is. His lack of discernment is understandable, as he's still young. He'll learn to be humbler after some suffering.
  • At that moment, when Bennett showed up right in front of Zachary, Zachary punched Bennett brutally on his chest.
  • Bennett felt an immense power striking him, like a spiral force piercing right into his chest and attacking his internal organs. Blood gushed out of his mouth, and he was sent flying backward. He smashed the police station's glass door behind him and crushed into the staircase in the lobby, causing the concrete debris to fly everywhere.
  • With a swift movement, Zachary caught Bennett's bank card in his hand. With a wave, He placed his right hand behind him and stared at Bennett calmly. “Bennett, you lost.”
  • There were several levels in the Chanaean fighters' combat skill system—the beginner, intermediate, elite, grandmaster, and divine levels.
  • Zachary was a divine-level fighter who even grandmasters worshipped.
  • At the moment, everyone was astounded.
