Chapter 15 The Arrival Of Bethany Winston

  • Sophia Smith was Natalie's cousin, and her family ran the top advertising company and two department stores. Their assets were worth a billion, which was second to Finley's family. Natalie's mother had a pair of sisters and a brother. Her mother was the third child, while Sophia's mother was the fourth. After Sophia's father married her mother, Sophia became one of the top five tycoons in the city with the help of her mother's family.
  • She was petite, and her skin was fair. Her eyes were not big, but they were inexplicably adorable. Dressed to the nines, she outshone the other beautiful women when she walked into the banquet hall.
  • Felix?
  • She immediately saw Zachary in a camouflage outfit in the crowd. He seemed out of place. She frowned slightly and trotted toward Natalie on her ten-centimeter-tall heels. She smiled as she glanced at Cecilia and whispered, “Why did you bring Felix that good-for-nothing here, Nat? Aren't you afraid that he'll embarrass you?”
  • “It wasn't me who brought him here, but Bethany.” Seeing her cousin here, Natalie felt helpless as she shook her head lightly.
  • “Bethany? As in Bethany Winston? How did Felix get to know her? Did you introduce her to him?” Sophia was shocked.
  • Natalie was an immaculate beauty and possessed an excellent family background. However, no one could have expected she was already married at the young age of twenty-four and that she married a plain and shabby man who was also a live-in son-in-law. Other than her best friend, Bethany, only her family knew about this, including Sophia, who was part of her family.
  • “I don't want to talk about it.” Natalie smiled.
  • “You're just too nice, Nat. We're all extremely against the idea of you marrying Felix. No matter how grateful you are to your father, you didn't have to act to such an extent. Look at Felix. He didn't even dress well for this kind of event; he just wore a camouflage outfit. How dare he? Maybe he's acting like this on purpose to embarrass you at this banquet. I'm going to teach him a lesson,” Sophia said in frustration.
  • “Just ignore him,” Natalie said.
  • “I can't!” Sophia's nostrils flared, and she approached Zachary.
  • Meanwhile, Zachary was at his limit as he held his anger. Not only did he fail to take advantage of Natalie the past two days, but he was also mistaken as a pretty face and frowned upon even further. A moment ago, a nobody with a net worth of two hundred million had splashed wine on him too. With his power as an overlord abroad, he had never experienced such humiliation. If his subordinates were present, Samuel would have been dragged outside and shot to death without him needing to say anything.
  • When is Bethany coming?
  • Suddenly, he felt someone landing a harsh kick on his butt. There was no fighter at the banquet, so he was not wary of the people here. He turned around and saw a girl with a cute face glaring at him. He gave the girl's looks a nine out of ten. The girl looked young, seemingly in her twenties. She was one hundred and sixty-five centimeters tall and had a pair of small eyes. She exuded a gentle aura, making people feel protective of her.
  • However, she was fierce. Her actions were the opposite of her outward appearance.
  • “Who are you? Why did you kick me?” Zachary slightly furrowed his eyebrows, feeling displeased. Natalie had already stopped Samuel, so he could not figure out why someone would want to make things difficult for him again.
  • “Felix? Don't you know me? I'm Sophia, the person you fear the most.” Sophia tilted her head and fixed her gaze on Zachary.
  • “Sophia?” Something flashed across his mind as he seemed to remember something.
  • “Hang on.” He quickly took out Felix's diary and flipped through the pages.
  • He had a great memory, and one could go so far as to say he had a photographic memory. He could recite the Combat Arts Secret Scroll with just a glimpse. However, he already had the memory of his own life. It was difficult for him to remember the memories of Felix's life because he would mix up his and Felix's memories. Sometimes, he even thought of himself as Felix after reading his diary too much. Because of that, he did not go out of his way to remember Felix's dull memories. He simply carried Felix's diary with him everywhere and tried his best to pretend to be Felix without being exposed.
  • Found it. He swiftly discovered notes about Sophia in the diary. He only gave it a few glimpses and understood what the situation was.
  • Although Natalie was cold, she was kind and treated her father with respect. She was usually polite to Felix and would merely give him the cold shoulder. In contrast, Sophia was not courteous at all. She was the daughter of a well-off family. She might be cute, but she had been unruly and capricious since she was a child. After finding out that Natalie married Felix, she detested this cousin-in-law of hers and had never given him an ounce of respect. She would always beat or scold him. Felix was terrified of this wealthy young lady and, at the same time, he despised her.
  • If I become rich one day, I'll viciously slap her cute face with money and rip her apart. Felix had written nothing but words of obscenity against Sophia in the diary.
  • “Do you remember who I am now?” Sophia glared at Zachary.
  • “Yes.” He nodded lightly.
  • “Now that you know who I am, what are you still doing here? Do you know what this event is? Do you think you're qualified to be here? Have you forgotten who you are? You don't even have the right to suck up to the people here. Not only that, but you're also wearing a camouflage outfit to embarrass Nat. I won't let you off when we get back.” Sophia looked at Zachary with contempt.
  • She was also a Taekwondo expert, but she was weaker than Zachary and did not make him cautious of her.
  • He regarded her like how he had regarded everyone else. He simply stared at her awkwardly and walked somewhere else silently.
  • “Oh my god, do you have a backup now, Felix? How dare you ignore me!” Sophia's eyes widened as she looked at Natalie in shock.
  • Natalie only smiled helplessly.
  • Sophia was enraged. Unlike the worthless Samuel, who simply argued and splashed wine onto Zachary, Sophia crackled her knuckles and went after Zachary, wanting to hit him.
  • “You're here, Sophia.” Suddenly, Finley, Samantha, Samuel, and a few other people from affluent backgrounds approached her.
  • Sophia was a star within their social circle and was second to Bethany, Finley, and Natalie. Sophia's wealth went back and forth between the fifth and the fourth place within the city ranking every year.
  • Seeing that Zachary had offended Sophia, the lot of them surrounded the two and looked forward to seeing Sophia bullying the man.
  • “Don't be reckless, Sophia. Finley's family organized this banquet today, and my family owns this hotel. It won't be good if you hit him and mess up the party. Don't do it for my sake.” Samuel quite fancied the pretty Sophia. He tried to embrace her, pretending to stop her when, in fact, he wanted to take advantage of her.
  • “Get lost!” Sophia immediately raised her fist, forcing Samuel to retreat before he could lay his hands on her.
  • “Forgive Mr. Yeager, Ms. Smith. He is pretty despicable. However, I can't figure out something. Why do you want to teach Camo a lesson? Did he somehow offend you?” Finley asked with a smile, acting as though he were the leader of the circle.
  • “I don't like anything about him. When I see him, I feel so displeased and disgusted,” Sophia said in a childish tone.
  • “Is that so? Do you mean this guy is worse than trash? I mean, not everyone wants to step on trash.” Finley shot Zachary a disdainful glare. He hated the poor man for the way he dressed and the fact that he knew Natalie. He had never seen Natalie speak so much to anyone.
  • A couple of minutes ago, when he realized that Zachary and Natalie knew each other, he pretended to have no idea about it and simply watched as Samuel make things difficult for Zachary. Only when Natalie spoke up did he rein in his temper for her sake.
  • However, unable to swallow his anger, he rushed over when he saw Sophia troubling Zachary. He intended to make things worse for Zachary.
  • “Isn't that a bit much, Finley?” Sophia frowned.
  • “Oh?” Finley responded in surprise.
  • “This has nothing to do with all of you. Be where you're supposed to be.” Sophia was upset, and she looked at Zachary again.
  • Zachary was her cousin-in-law after all. Although she abhorred him, she would not let anyone else push him around. Their bullying him was equivalent to them looking down on her and slapping her in the face. She felt uncomfortable with Finley's unpleasant words just now.
  • Finley did not know what Zachary's relationship with Natalie and Sophia was. He was confused at seeing Sophia defending Zachary after she bullied him. Despite that, Sophia's family was not as wealthy compared to his. His expression quickly turned cold, and he said to Zachary, “Who gave you the right to befriend Nat when you can't even afford to get better clothes, you trash? If it weren't for her, I would've chased you out long ago.”
  • “Do you know him too, Sophia? What's wrong with you and Nat? Why would you know such a humiliating piece of work? What is your relationship with him? If you're related, could you get him some better clothes next time?” Samuel sneered. He could see that Zachary was somewhat related to Sophia, and it annoyed him.
  • “One would think he's a migrant worker, an electrician, or a plumber,” Samantha scoffed, her arms crossed.
  • Her family had been competing against Sophia's family for the position of the fourth wealthiest family in the city. Moreover, Sophia was more beautiful than her. Realizing that Sophia was somewhat related to Zachary, she quickly helped Finley to mock Zachary.
  • At that moment, the young men and women in the banquet gathered around again when they saw that Zachary had attracted another wave of insults.
  • “Are you guys insane? What do all of you have to do with me lecturing Felix? Get lost.” Sophia turned red, furious that she was ostracized because she knew Felix.
  • “Is camouflage clothing the fashion trend this year?” Samantha added abruptly.
  • All the young men and women burst into laughter as they looked at Zachary, who was silent, and Sophia, whose face was red.
  • The naïve Sophia was no match for Samantha at all.
  • “Camouflage clothing is indeed the fashion trend this year. Do you all have any problems with that?” Right then, an icy voice sounded from the entrance of the hall.
  • “Hah, another country bumpkin has—” A man laughed as he turned around to look at the door.
  • Suddenly, his expression changed drastically, and he went silent as if someone was choking him by the neck.
  • Bethany and Bennett could be seen standing at the entrance. Bennett was dressed in a camouflage outfit, while Bethany was wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans. She looked pale with anger.
