Chapter 6 I Refuse

  • Zachary felt his chest tighten and almost choked.
  • As he gazed at Natalie's stunning side profile, helplessness was written all over his face.
  • On the day he met Natalie for the first time, he had told her that he was Zachary Larson, not Felix Larson. However, Natalie only remembered that his name was Felix, and Zachary was not registered in her memory. In her opinion, the person before her was Felix, and he was incomparable to the impressive Zachary, whom Bethany constantly talked about. Actually, he was Zachary, and Zachary was him. The real Felix was currently on the run, so he took over the identity of Felix. To sum up, he was both Zachary and Felix at the moment.
  • After pondering for a moment, Zachary asked, “If I tell you that I'm Zachary Larson, would you believe me?”
  • “Sure, I believe that you're Zachary. You're the one who've captured all the wanted fugitives. How impressive...” Smirking, Natalie displayed palpable disdain for Zachary. With that, she put down her fork gently and turned to Cecilia. “I'm done. Once you've finished eating, go shower.”
  • “Okay.” With her large eyes, Cecilia sneaked a peek at Zachary and nodded.
  • When Natalie had returned to her room, Zachary was vexed as he looked at the door that had been left ajar by Natalie. As a top-tier fighter, he no longer cared about glory, fame, and fortune. However, he could not help feeling vain in the presence of Natalie. The more he tried proving himself, the fewer chances Natalie offered him.
  • Wait for it. I'll show you my capability eventually. Once you find out about my ability, I doubt that you'll be as calm. I wonder what sort of interesting expression you'll be wearing by then.
  • Gradually, Zachary recalled the scene of him being with Natalie at the ward, and an indiscernible feeling began creeping into him.
  • For some reason, his desire for Natalie grew stronger when she treated him with an indifferent attitude.
  • Cecilia tugged at the corner of Zachary's shirt. “Felix, you've always been doing my homework for me in the past. Although your handwriting is horrible, and you've always made some mistakes while doing it, I don't mind. So, can you please do my homework for me?”
  • “Do it on your own.” Furrowing his brows, he cut a glare at Cecilia for interrupting his train of thoughts.
  • “Okay.” Cecilia pouted indignantly.
  • He's definitely my father.
  • That night, Zachary had trouble falling asleep in the tiny room alone. At the thought of a remarkable beauty sleeping next to his room, he had to use his internal energy to resist the lust blazing within him.
  • The next morning, the remaining six from the initial list of thirteen wanted fugitives were left at the entrance of the police station with their hands and legs bound.
  • Previously, Zachary and Bethany had made a small bet, and he had claimed that he would capture all the wanted fugitives within three days. However, he managed to apprehend them in less than a day.
  • A wave of shock rippled across the entire police station. Everyone, including Tobias, Bennett, the chief, Bethany, the police captain, and the other police officers, stared at Zachary in astonishment as if he was a freak.
  • Appearing unfazed, Zachary began tapping on the calculator in his grip. “Thirteen wanted fugitives in total. Two fugitives that cost five hundred thousand each, three that cost three hundred thousand each, five that cost two hundred thousand each, and three that cost a hundred thousand each. That'll be a total of three million two hundred thousand. Please make your payment.”
  • The police captain's expression changed as he asked, “Hold up. These thirteen fugitives were on the run for at least eight years, and some even escaped to an island. They went incognito for so many years, and we couldn't find them even after making countless attempts. How did you manage to locate them?”
  • Zachary replied nonchalantly, “That's confidential. I'm afraid I can't tell you that.”
  • “He's so cool. It's as though he's the bounty hunter in films!” Unlike her previous cold demeanor, Bethany started looking at Zachary in a different light. While she cupped her delicate cheeks, her eyes lit up with admiration. “Zachary, you're so cool! I idolize you so much. Can I be your disciple? The sort of disciple that cleans your house and warms your bed!”
  • Zachary let out an awkward chuckle in response.
  • Furrowing his brows, Tobias chided in a low voice, “Bethany, stop messing around.” Then, he stared at the six fugitives on the floor and muttered, “Could it be him? He managed to capture thirteen fugitives that had been on the run for nearly ten years within twenty-four hours. If it's him, then this is possible...”
  • Frowning deeply, Bennett stated in a deep voice, “That's impossible!”
  • Bennett, who was Tobias' favorite follower and major, had previously undergone tough training for three years as a part of Wolverine, which was one of the five major special forces. Besides protecting the old man, he was also currently an assistant instructor of the special force of the state military. Highly adept in combat skills, he had once knocked down a national combat arts champion on the spot with a mere kick. To him, it was a mission impossible to capture thirteen fugitives who had escaped and were scattered all over the world within twenty-four hours.
  • Even if the Godly Squad of Chanaea took things into their own hands, it would require some effort from them to complete such a task within the same amount of time.
  • As the top team of law enforcers in Chanaea, the members of Godly Squad were all talented experts recruited from the military and police forces all around the globe. In his perspective, those people from Godly Squad were freaks, so it was impossible that Zachary's ability would surpass Godly Squad.
  • Zachary said flatly, “It doesn't matter if it's possible or not. The point is that I've accomplished it. When will you be paying me the bounty of three million two hundred thousand? I don't accept online transfers and check, and I want only cash.”
  • Shocked, the chief answered, “Within three days. I'll send in an application to my superiors right away, and I promise to pay you in cash in three days.”
  • “Okay. I'll be here to collect my cash three days later.” Zachary turned around and strode toward the small truck.
  • Suddenly, Tobias called out to him, “Hold on!”
  • Zachary turned around to face him. “Yes?”
  • At the moment, Tobias, who was clad in a military uniform, no longer had a stern look on his face. His expression changed abruptly. Although he was a man in his sixties, he had an awkward look on his face at the moment, behaving like a sixteen-year-old young lady. Tobias immediately lowered his head with a flushed face when he met Zachary's eyes. He said meekly, “Hey, I have a request, and I hope you would agree to it.”
  • “What is it?” Zachary asked.
  • Clutching both his hands together, Tobias felt extremely nervous. “Due to your outstanding capabilities, I hope that you'll join our force. Every year, there are a few special slots in the police force and military, and those slots are prepared for the recruitment of some fighters with extraordinary abilities to join the group. I hope that you'll join the military to make some contribution to the country. As for the welfare and benefits, you may name your price.”
  • He was certain that the young man before him was none other than Zachary Larson.
  • Zachary Larson was such a famous figure. Although he had only seen Zachary's side profile in a video, he believed that the youngster before him was the unbeatable world-class elite soldier.
  • He was certain that once Zachary joined the military, he would become a major-general within two years.
  • “Sorry, but I refuse.” Zachary shook his head.
