Chapter 2: You Are My Mate.

  • She has woken up, but still laid on her bed, recalling all that happened the previous night.
  • She picked up her cell phone from the lampstand, dialling Ariana’s and Jide’s numbers since they were the closest thing to her. But sadly, they weren’t picking up her calls.
  • She felt maybe they might be busy, so she went to have her shower. After bathing, her phone rang. She checked on the dialer, it was Ariana. She picked up the call.
  • “ Hey, babe. Sup.” Ariana sounded from the other side of the line. “Sorry I missed your calls. I was busy with mom so I didn’t realize my phone was ringing.” She apologized.
  • “ It’s okay, I thought as much.”
  • “So what’s up?”
  • “ I’m bored. “ She said dully.
  • “ Should I come over? “ Ariana asked. “I’m kinda less busy right now.”
  • “ Yes, please. Is Jide with you?” She asked.
  • “ No. He said he’d come over but I haven’t seen him yet. Did something bad happen? “ She asked, sounding worried.
  • “ Yeah. It’s concerning the creature of the night. And mom will be travelling this morning and I’m all alone so, I just need someone to talk to. “
  • “ Okay, I’m with you. What about the creature of the night, did you see it? “ She asked, anxiously.
  • “ Yes, last night. It came to my room.”
  • “Hold on, I’m coming over right now. Call Jide too, we have to discuss this together.”
  • “ Okay. I’ll be waiting.” Ariana hangs up the call.
  • DeLorna’s heart was beating twice its normal beat. Even in broad daylight, she felt scared. The beast was right about one thing, she really did want proof.

  • “It came last night, through my window.” She said, looking terrified. Her hand pointed at the window.
  • “What does he look like?” Ariana inquisitively asked.
  • “At first he was like an animal, then suddenly he became a human being just like us. He knows I doubted about the creatures of the night, he knows I wanted proof that’s why he came.”
  • “ He wants you to believe and see it for yourself that he was real,” Jide added. “Did he hurt you?” He asked.
  • “ No, he didn’t. But before he left, he said he was gonna take me to a place. I didn’t know what he was talking about but he said he was gonna take me there the next time he comes. I’m scared.”
  • Ariana holds her hands. “ You can come over to my house, and I won’t mind you sharing the same bed with me if that can help.” She suggested.
  • “ That’s a good idea,” Jide added. “ The creature of the night doesn’t want to be known yet, since he has shown you his real identity, he wouldn’t want to do so to any other person. If he finds out you aren’t here, he will flee because he will think you must have told everyone about him.”
  • She nods in agreement. “ Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it.” They hugged her.

  • The night approached fast, leaving DeLorna to ponder thoughts. Why would her mother have to go now? Especially when this hell of a monster is after her.
  • And the fact that this very demon won’t let her be, why does her life have to be the worst among all? She looked at herself in the mirror, staring at her image.
  • Ariana walks in. She noticed DeLorna’s countenance, she walks to her side. “The more you keep thinking of him, the more you give him chances to get to you.”
  • “ What does it mean when someone calls you his little kitten?” She glared at Ariana from the mirror.
  • “ I’m not so sure but, most times people call that name only to people so dear to them. For instance, Romeo calls Juliet his little kitten.” She replied using instances.
  • “ Last night before he left, he called me that name.”
  • Ariana was quiet, she left DeLorna’s side to her bed. “ Ariana is there something you know that I don’t?” She asked, following her to the bed. “ What does it mean?”
  • “DeLorna, I honestly don’t know what to say. I’ve read books about night creatures and I have never seen something like this before. But if truly he did call you that name, then it means something.”
  • “ Something like what?” She asked, anxiously.
  • “ You are his mate. Wolves give their mates names, and since he is a wolf, then I’m certain my instincts are right.”
  • DeLorna’s heart skipped a beat. But why then did she not feel the bond? She is supposed to feel the bond if truly they were mates.
  • Is she really his mate?
  • Ariana looked scared too. She was good at horror books and she knows a lot about night creatures more than any of them. She definitely won’t be lying to her.
  • She couldn’t sleep, the thoughts were too much for her to concentrate on.
  • “ I don’t know what you want, and I don’t seem to care either, but whatever you are up to will definitely not work out well for you.” She mentally said to herself.
  • While all these words echoed in her head, she didn’t know when she dozed off.
  • “DeLorna…” A thin voice sounded from afar, following the wave to the room. “ DeLorna.”
  • Her eyes opened. Remotely, she stepped out of the bed, heading to the door. She involuntarily opened it, making her way down the stairs until she got to the exit door.
  • Unbolting it, she pushed it open, making her way out of the building.
  • “ DeLorna.” Called the voice again.
  • She followed the direction of the sound, walking unconsciously to nowhere. She wasn’t in control of herself anymore, and there was no difference between her and a walking dead corpse.
  • “ DeLorna.” The closer she got, the louder the voice sounded in her ears. She stopped walking, her body didn’t move. She was still as a stone, eyes not blinking.
  • “ DeLorna.” Now the voice was bold and clear to the ear. He was standing right behind her. “ Turn to me.” She turned.
  • He smiled broadly, happy to see her again. “ You came. “
  • She glared around the unknown environment, then at the figure who was actually smiling broadly at her. She was now in total control of herself.
  • “ How did I get here?” She asked.
  • “ I called you, and you answered. “
  • She frowned. “ You asshole. Are you fu*king tampering with my head? “
  • “ I didn’t do anything, I just called you and you answered my call. Isn’t that surprising? “
  • “ What do you want from me? Why bother my life? “ She asked in a harsh tone.
  • “As I promised you last night, I told you I was gonna show you to a place. I think this is the right time to do so.”
  • “ What has gone over you? Do you ever reason before you do things in this your life? How on earth do you expect me to go to who-knows-where with you when I don’t even know who or what the fu*k you are.”
  • “ I don’t think any of those are necessary for now.”
  • “ Seriously?” She rolls her eyes. “ I’m going home.” She turns to leave.
  • “ I’ll be waiting for you.”
  • “ Great, cos you aren’t gonna see me here again.” She didn’t stop walking. After walking for what took like minutes, she couldn’t find her way back home.
  • She stopped walking, looking around the environment. “ I hate you.” She cursed, returning back to him.
  • “ You’re back? So soon?”
  • “ Don’t fu*king act so surprised, okay? What’s this place?”
  • “ I don’t know, I just felt like meeting you here is the right place.”
  • She scoffs, moving her head to both sides. “You’re insane.”
  • “ So, are you coming with me or not?”
  • “ Definitely not coming.” She insisted.
  • He rolls his eyes. “ Can you for once stop acting stubborn?”
  • “ And can you for once stop killing?” She yanked back. He threw her a hard gaze, she didn’t seem to mind. “ And besides you said it yourself, you love it when people make their choices. Well, I have made mine already, I am not going anywhere with you.” She stood her ground.
  • “ Well I have changed my mind, you are coming with me.” He grabs her by the wrist, and she pulls it off.
  • “ Where the hell do you think you are taking me to? Your place is in hell… alone. And if you do cherish your life then you better go find someone of your type.”
  • “ I’m gonna pretend like I didn’t hear that.” She stopped talking, mouthing her lips but not a single word came out of it.
  • “ What do you want from me?” A tear dropped out of her eyes.
  • “You should know by now my only purpose of taking you isn’t because I felt I should.”
  • “ Then why are you here? Why do you want me? Of all people, why does it have to be me? “
  • “ For so long I have searched for the one to call my own. I’ve searched through mountains and caves, hoping I would one day wake up to see her by my side. And now I have found her, there is no other reason why I have to search for her. You asked me why it has to be you, that’s because. . . You are mine. My mate.”
