  • Beth shook her head. "No, not yet, but Mila and her husband have had a couple of run-ins. The Sheriff here is a former caretaker and, as I found out after I moved here, is a distant Uncle of mine that I never knew about. I found out about him in mom and dad's journals. He does a great job at sniffing out the hunters before they even get here."
  • Aden frowned and scratched his head. It was obvious that Humanity could learn a lot from these creatures and yet there were those who saw the threat in the creatures. "Why don't they move inland more?" he asked at last after pouring over Beth's notes. "There's nature preserves, natural parks, all sorts of places they can hide at where it'd be hard for hunters to go to. Why not go to those places?"
  • Beth just blinked at him. "They can't get there. Even if they did some lake hopping, they'd be exposed. They can fight can kill if they have to. They've done it before. But in the end its sheer numbers; humans have more."
