Chapter 4 Cameron Knight

  • The mention of "girlfriend" made Yoel nervous.
  • He smirked and asked, "Girlfriend? Are you sure?"
  • "Of course, she's my girlfriend. If I don't know that, then who does? You? If that's the case, then I wonder what Mr. Grant is trying to imply?"
  • Their gazes locked as soon as those words were spoken. It felt like they were engaged in an intense battle, with sparks flying!
  • Ding!
  • The elevator arrived on the 22nd floor.
  • Just as the conflict was about to escalate, Whitney grabbed the man's hand and said, "Darling, we should leave!"
  • Yoel didn't chase after them. However, his intense and dangerous gaze remained fixed on their intertwined hands!
  • "Sorry, Mr. Grant, we have a project to discuss. We'll be leaving."
  • Just as Muse was about to follow the duo, Yoel stopped him and asked, "Is she with you guys?"
  • This time, Muse quickly realized that Yoel was referring to Whitney. "Mr. Grant, are you talking about Duskwind? She is our company's platinum-contracted writer. Do you know her?"
  • Contracted writer?
  • Huh, this woman seemed to be worse off after four years!
  • Yoel's lips curled into a cold smile at that thought. "I don't know her. You can leave!"
  • His face turned icy as he replayed their earlier interaction in his mind. When they arrived at the 33rd floor, Larry reminded him, "Mr. Grant, we have arrived."
  • As Yoel was about to step out of the elevator, he suddenly spoke up, "Quickly investigate this Duskwind and gather all the information about that man, too!"
  • How dare she flirt with some unknown man after four years? She had certainly become bolder over the years!
  • Whitney was still trembling with fear even after turning the corner and confirming that Yoel hadn't caught up with her. She had encountered her ex-husband twice on her very first visit back to the country after so many years. Could her luck get any worse?
  • Perhaps misfortune was destined to follow her whenever she was in Lithberg. But Yoel probably didn't recognize her earlier, right? Otherwise, considering his personality, he would have already caught her and made her life miserable.
  • That's it. After selling the copyright of my work and signing the contract, I'm definitely leaving the country and never coming back. If I ever return to this wretched place, I better be kicking and screaming!
  • If Yoel found out about Morris and Daisy... God, she didn't even want to think about the consequences she would face.
  • "Whitney, are you okay?"
  • A concerned voice snapped Whitney out of her thoughts. Then, she suddenly realized she was still holding the man's hand. So, she quickly let go and apologized profusely, "I'm really sorry. I didn't think things through, and I needed... Anyway, it was urgent, and I didn't mean to cause you any trouble! Regardless, I'm very grateful for your help earlier."
  • The man stared at her intently before asking, "Don't you recognize me anymore?"
  • Whitney's mind was occupied by Yoel's presence. So, she wasn't in the right state of mind to think about anything else. Hence, she asked tentatively, "Sorry, may I ask who you are?"
  • "I'm Cameron Knight."
  • Whitney immediately made the connection. But just as she was about to exchange pleasantries with him, Owen Turner's voice came from behind, saying, "Mr. Knight, the meeting is about to start."
  • Muse and the others also caught up, utterly surprised. "Is this gentleman here for the project as well?"
  • Owen introduced Cameron to everyone else present, saying seriously, "You three are in charge of The Read, right? This is Mr. Knight, the CEO of LC Group."
  • "So, you're Cameron! What a coincidence! Do you and Duskwind know each other?"
  • Cameron's gaze never left Whitney as he smiled politely and replied, "We were college classmates."
  • Whitney quickly corrected her form of address, blurting out, "We both attended the same college."
  • She studied editing and publishing at Lithberg University, while Cameron was in the finance department. The two buildings were quite far apart. However, Whitney had heard about Cameron's reputation since she enrolled in the university.
  • "I didn't expect you two to be college classmates! What a small world! Since you and Duskwind are classmates, I'm sure our cooperation will go smoothly!"
  • Cameron chuckled and replied, "I've read that book. It's very well-written."
  • A CEO like him actually reads romance novels? Are there any surprising secrets he's hiding?
  • Owen added, "The adaptation of 'Deep Love' has been a key project of LC Group ever since Mr. Knight became the CEO. He has attached great importance to it and took time out of his busy schedule to personally discuss the copyright issues."
  • "Mr. Knight and Duskwind are old acquaintances! I believe that this will be the start of a beautiful cooperation!"
  • During the meeting, LC Group began by offering a very generous copyright fee.
  • Furthermore, Cameron had focused on steering his company towards the film and television industry. Therefore, he personally selected "Deep Love" as one of the company's major projects. Once the copyright was secured, the LC Group would invest in the novel and turn it into a top-level filming project.
  • After successful negotiations, Whitney carefully read through the contract and found herself satisfied with the terms.
  • Just as Whitney was about to sign, Muse, who had received a call, hurriedly returned. She stopped Whitney and said urgently, "Duskwind, wait."
  • "What's the matter, Ms. Muse?"
  • Muse felt a little embarrassed as she pulled Whitney aside and whispered, "Duskwind, I just received a call from our boss. He said that we should delay authorizing the copyright of 'Deep Love.'"
  • Whitney furrowed her brows in confusion. "I think the offer from LC Group is already generous enough. Why bother?"
  • "Because there's another company that's also interested in 'Deep Love'. The offer they've made is slightly higher than LC's."
  • Another company is interested in 'Deep Love'? When does my debut novel, which I wrote four years ago, become so sought after?
  • Still, it would be foolish to say no to more money. Since someone else had offered a higher royalty fee, Whitney thought it would be best to consider her options before moving forward.
  • "I apologize, Mr. Knight. There are still some parts of the contract that the company's lawyer has yet to review. We would like to clarify some of the terms before proceeding. Can we give you an answer tomorrow?"
  • Cameron had a good temper, so he didn't get angry. Instead, he agreed and handed Whitney a business card.
  • Whitney was surprised by his pleasant demeanor and his actions.
  • "If you have any questions about the contract, feel free to contact me. Just give me a call tomorrow if you think that we're good to go. I'm available anytime."
  • Since he offered his business card, she accepted it out of politeness and nodded in agreement.
  • "Whitney, allow me the honor of treating you to dinner tonight if you have the time. After all, I just became your boyfriend a few minutes ago. At least let me treat you to a nice meal."
  • Whitney felt a bit embarrassed. Unfortunately, she had no choice but to decline when she thought about her precious son waiting for her at home. So, she replied apologetically, "I'm sorry, Mr. Knight. I have other commitments tonight. Why don't I treat you to a meal another day? Consider it a thank you for your help today. Is that alright with you?"
  • Cameron didn't insist on the matter. "Sure, see you then. I hope you will seriously consider my proposal. I really value the adaptation of 'Deep Love.'"
  • As they left the financial building, Pammy exclaimed excitedly, "Where are you going, Duskwind? Do you want us to give you a ride?"
  • Whitney was about to express her gratitude for their kindness when a voice called out from behind, saying, "Excuse me, Miss Stone."
  • She instinctively turned around to the source of the voice and noticed that it was Larry, Yoel's assistant.
  • Larry addressed her as Miss Stone, indicating that Yoel must have recognized her earlier!
  • Whitney instinctively tightened her grip on the strap of her bag.
  • Larry made a polite gesture and said, "Miss Stone, Mr. Grant would like to speak with you."
  • "I'm sorry, but I don't know Mr. Grant personally. Therefore, there is no necessity for me to meet him. I have other pressing matters that require my attention. Farewell."
