Chapter 3 Mr Grant's Intentions Towards My Girlfriend

  • As Zita spoke, she held Scott's hand.
  • This is not good!
  • Scott wanted to pull his hand back, but it was too late.
  • An electric current quickly surged into Zita's palm, creating a crackling sound.
  • Zita fell back onto the back seat of the car, convulsing momentarily, with smoke rising from her head!
  • The driver in the driver's seat thought Zita was sick and hurried to check on her.
  • "Ms. Lenton, are you okay..."
  • But the driver accidentally touched Scott's hand and was electrocuted, trembling like a leaf.
  • His eyes rolled back, and he fell down, with smoke coming out of his mouth!
  • Scott was dumbstruck.
  • Great, I electrocuted both of them.
  • Following the address, Whitney arrived at a finance center.
  • Among the white-collar workers coming and going, Whitney immediately recognized the girl standing on the right side of the door, wearing a pair of round black-framed glasses, like a recent graduate.
  • It was Pammy. She was an assistant editor at The Read, the publishing website with whom Whitney signed a contract.
  • "Pammy?"
  • Whitney approached and greeted her proactively. Pammy turned around abruptly, and when she saw Whitney up close, her stunning beauty made her jaw drop wide enough to fit an egg.
  • "M-Ms. Duskwind?"
  • Duskwind was Whitney's pen name online. She extended her hand. "Yes, it's me. Nice to meet you."
  • Pammy hurriedly shook hands with Whitney in a fluster.
  • "Ms. Duskwind, actually, I noticed you when you just came out of the subway, but I didn't dare to approach you. I didn't expect you to be so good-looking in person. You look like an angel!"
  • The reason she started writing novels was to make a living.
  • Whitney didn't expect her first book to be such a hit. The Read even invited her to attend their annual meeting and wanted to do an exclusive interview with her.
  • But she rejected all of it. Back then, after sleeping with Yoel, she left behind a divorce agreement and ran away.
  • The Grants had been searching for her whereabouts. Once her photo appeared on the internet, if Yoel found out, it would be over for her.
  • "No need to be so formal. We've known each other for almost four years. Just call me Duskwind."
  • After entering the lobby, a woman in her thirties sitting on the couch by the window walked over.
  • Pammy immediately introduced her to Whitney. "Duskwind, this is our editor-in-chief, Muse."
  • Muse looked at Whitney's eyes without concealing her astonishment. "Hello, Duskwind. Previously, our group of editors was discussing what kind of person could write such a delicate and detailed writing style as 'Deep Love.' Seeing you today, Duskwind, it's really a pity that you didn't end up becoming a celebrity!"
  • "You're too kind."
  • Muse enthusiastically led the way in front, and while waiting for the elevator, she explained, "The representatives from Penumbra Media, a film and media company under LC Group which is interested in 'Deep Love,' have already arrived. If you have any requirements regarding the copyright, you can discuss them in the meeting. Of course, we will also make every effort to negotiate a satisfactory copyright fee for you."
  • Ding.
  • The elevator arrived.
  • Just as Whitney and the group entered, a large hand suddenly stopped the elevator door.
  • "Sorry."
  • It was a gentle voice, and then a man walked in with long strides.
  • "Long time no see, Whitney."
  • The other person called out her name, and Whitney looked up, meeting the man's ink-black eyes.
  • The man had distinct facial features, with a high nose bridge. And especially those eyes, they looked as if they were shining.
  • Whitney felt that this man seemed familiar, but for a moment, she couldn't remember his name.
  • "You are..."
  • While they were talking, a stretched Lincoln stopped at the main entrance of the finance center.
  • An attendant immediately came out to greet him personally.
  • "Mr. Grant, welcome!"
  • Yoel stepped out of the car with a stern expression and strode into the building.
  • Larry followed closely beside him and reported, "Mr. Grant, it appears that Mr. Scott damaged the power supply at the airport. The surveillance footage only captured him escaping from the restroom, and several cameras are currently being repaired. The police have also requested the surveillance footage outside the airport..."
  • As Yoel casually glanced around, he happened to catch sight of a familiar and delicate profile in the adjacent elevator!
  • Coincidentally, Whitney met Yoel's gaze from the corner of her eye, and a chill ran down her spine!
  • It's Yoel! Oh my goodness!
  • Meeting at the airport would have been one thing, but how could they bump into each other here? The world is so small!
  • In a panic, Whitney quickly pulled a hat out of her bag, placed it on her head, and swiftly turned around.
  • In her heart, she silently prayed, I would trade ten pounds of my fat just so Yoel didn't see me earlier!
  • But just as the elevator doors were about to close, a slender hand intercepted them.
  • Upon seeing Yoel's face, Muse became excited. "Oh my god, it's Mr. Grant! Hello, Mr. Grant, I'm Muse, the chief editor of The Read. It's an honor to ride the elevator with you. Here's our company's business card!"
  • This woman, Muse, must have an inferiority complex, right?
  • And she's also audacious and stubborn. How dare she talk to Mr. Grant, the cold-faced reaper!
  • "I'm sorry, but Mr. Grant doesn't accept business cards from strangers—"
  • Larry was about to refuse as usual, but Yoel suddenly extended his long, elegant hand.
  • Using two fingers, he picked up the business card and took it.
  • Larry was left speechless.
  • He had never been so embarrassed before.
  • Am I dreaming, or is Mr. Grant not his usual self?
  • Yoel glanced at the business card, but his gaze remained fixed on the figure that always had her back turned to him.
  • "The Read?"
  • His voice was deep and irresistibly magnetic.
  • Muse began to ramble, "Yes, our company operates in the new media and cultural industry, primarily focused on literary creation..."
  • "Is she also from your company?"
  • Yoel wasn't interested in the nature of this small company's business.
  • His gaze was like that of a hawk, unwaveringly fixed on Whitney's figure.
  • As the elevator ascended, Whitney's hat sported a pair of upright rabbit ears that occasionally twitched, mirroring her current state of mind—like a startled rabbit ready to flee at any moment.
  • However, Muse completely failed to sense the imminent danger and mistakenly thought that Yoel was inquiring about her colleague.
  • "Oh, Mr. Grant, this is Pammy, our company's assistant editor—"
  • Before she could finish her sentence, Yoel coldly interrupted, "I'm asking about her."
  • He was referring to Whitney!
  • Muse was about to introduce her, but Whitney suddenly swayed, and the man beside her promptly supported her. "Whit..."
  • "Please help me put on a little act!"
  • Whitney quickly whispered something to the man. Then, she leaned against him, burying almost her entire face in his embrace.
  • In a strained voice, she said, "Darling, I'm feeling a bit lightheaded."
  • The endearment not only left Muse and the others dumbfounded but also made Yoel's face darken like a storm cloud!
  • Yoel took a step forward and reached out towards Whitney, but before he could touch her, another hand intercepted him.
  • "What does Mr. Grant intend to do with my girlfriend?"
