Chapter 2

  • Even though it has been a year since Jessie ran away, that still didn't stop her from watching over her shoulders. The eerie feeling of being watched loomed even more as she hurried out of the light rain.
  • Jessie's eyes wandered around, examining all the shadows. For example, the outline of a garbage bin she thought was a man, or the edging she thought was someone crouching down. And with every door opening or closing, or every foot step. She would speed up, thinking that her father found her.
  • Jessie closed the dorm room door behind her, then lean against it with a heavy sigh.
  • "I can't keep living like this." she said to herself.
  • "Like what?" One of her roommate asked, causing Jessie to almost jumped out of her skin.
  • "These classes, they are exhausting." Jessie lied.
  • "And you are only just realising that? You have no social life, no friends, you hardly sleep. Not to mention the fact that you have smuggled your sister in the closet. It's like you are hiding from something."
  • Jessie's eyes widen at that. "You know?''
  • "Yes, the food is always missing, so are my things and I saw her on many occasions tip toeing around the place.''
  • "Please don't report this?"
  • "I won't, it's kind of odd to see such a thing, but my mouth is sealed.''
  • Which Jessie doubted, Selena was the chatty type when drunk, just one beer and she song like a bird. You could get any information out of her, any sexual favours or even a merry laugh because she doesn't know how to manage her liquor.
  • "It's not something I wish to share, but my sister will leave first thing tomorrow. She was only here because we miss each other.''
  • Selena raised a brow at Jessie but said nothing.
  • "It's whatever." Selena turns away from her. "Oh, since it's Friday. Why don't you live a little and come out with us? Casper and I are meeting with a bunch of people, come."
  • Jessie looked wistfully out the window, then to the closet. Which opens up and Kimmy stepped out.
  • "It's ok sissy. You can go, maybe I can finally sleep in your bed tonight." Kimmy yawned and stretched to emphasis on being tired.
  • "Are you sure? I mean, we could eat pizza and drink the iced tea you like.''
  • Kimmy gave her sister a smile.
  • "No, go out and have fun, you deserve it sis.''
  • In record time, Jessie got ready. Dressed in a pair of blue washed out skinny jeans and a pink crop top that had tiny holes in it. She paired it with a pair of black flip-flops, then put her greasy hair up in a ponytail.
  • "Ready." Jessie announced.
  • Selena gave Jessie a once over and made a face.
  • She had on a short dress, with fish net leggings, combat boots and a bright pink bra that showed at the top of her dress. Under Selena's eyes were black eye liner that made brown eyes popped, and pink lipstick on her thin lips.
  • "You'll do I guess." Selena smiled.
  • As they made their way out, Jessie caught Kimmy's eyes and she made a gagging action, then pointed at Selena.
  • "Have fun.'' Kimmy blew a kiss after Jessie.
  • The small bar that was on campus was packed with students trying to take a load off and relax for the weekend. Either dancing to the upbeat music, playing pool or making out.
  • "Come on.'' Selena pulled Jessie again with her.
  • They pushed their way through to the back, where a mixed group of ten females and males were playing bear pong and drinking.
  • "And she's finally here." Casper, with his messy ginger hair, came up to Selena and hugged her.
  • Selena's new fling stared at Jessie for a moment, then gave a bright smile.
  • "I've seen you around before. Jossie right?''
  • "Jessie, but she's not that important." Selena pulled her boy toy away, but he looked back at Jessie, then winked.
  • Jessie looked around, then found a seat a bit away from the others. She bobbed her head in time of the music, while watching the others goofed around.
  • "Why are you by yourself?'' A boy with a buzz cut came over to lean on the table.
  • ''Just observing, haven't been here before so, you know. Just trying to figure o-" Jessie stopped talking when her stomach made an unflattering noise.
  • The boy stared at her for a while, then walked away.
  • Feeling embarrassed, Jessie got up, but just as she was about to leave. The boy stopped her by grabbing her hand.
  • "Hey, wait. I bought food for the both of us.'' He told her, placing a platter of chicken wings and beer before her.
  • "Oh, thanks.'' Jessie's face could feel her face getting red.
  • "No big deal. I know how this place can get, it's so hectic that you hardly find time to sleep or eat.'' He laughed.
  • But that wasn't the case for Jessie. She couldn't afford food and, with Kimmy living in her closet, it was hard to sustain both of them.
  • "Oh, my name is Chad Cooper, by the way." He introduced with a smile.
  • "Jessica Thomas.'' She responded.
  • "I know.'' Chad smiled again.
  • When a friend of his distracted him, Jessie tried to snatch a few pieces of wings to bring back to Kimmy. But the boy that was talking with Chad kept glancing at her.
  • "And who might you be?'' He cut Chad off to give Jessie his full attention.
  • "Her name is Jessie, and she is my girl.'' Chad said.
  • That got his friend to back away, but he threw a smirk at Jessie.
  • "Your girlfriend?" Dylan said, then shook his head and walked away.
  • "Hey, sorry, but I know how Dylan can be."
  • Jessie nodded, "I see. Can you please excuse me?''
  • Jessie hurries to the bathroom, because she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, which meant it was her time of the month.
  • The bathroom lights over the stalls flickered, while the ones over the sink were out, givng off a dark eeire feeling to the bathroom .
  • "Think you can fool me, huh?'' Dylan said, coming up behind Jessie.
  • She pivoted around, ready to run, but he blocked her path.
  • "I know you are not with Chad. You are not his type. I mean, he could never score a babe like you.'' Dylan stumbled over his words.
  • Jessie tried to push him away, in order to get his rancid breath out of her face.
  • "What's wrong, don't you like me?''
  • He fell forward. Jessie thought twice about catching him before letting him fall.
  • Jessie hurried to use the bathroom while she was washing her hand. She glanced at someone in the shadows, with glowing eyes leering at her.
  • Before she could react, the person rushed at her.
