• "Where is Edward? Why did you send Edward to spy on me when you realized I was recovered?" Tobias asked and touched the spot where Mae had just kicked him.
• He needed to distract Martin with his question. A moment ago, when Mae had deliberately kicked him in the calf, a tiny syringe containing a potion had fallen out of her boot. He had taken the opportunity to bend his knee to get the syringe, filled with an unknown potion, into his hands.
