• Milo’s constant barking startled Keith awake the next morning. He let out a groan as he sat up in bed, then got up to see what was bothering him so early. When he opened the door to his room, Milo kept barking at him. “Hey! Shh… what’s wrong with you?” He knelt down and gently patted his back, but the brown dog seemed agitated.
• He hurried back to Cara’s room, causing Keith to furrow his brow as he watched him. Standing up again, he followed him into the room, only to find it empty.
• The phone rested lazily on the table as his eyes scanned the room and took in its pristine cleanliness. There was no sign of Cara’s belongings or suitcases anywhere. When he checked the closet, he saw that it was empty as well.
