Chapter 5 Unraveling Secrets
- Darien supplied all they needed, so Jeri was able to take a shower in the guest room and make sure her child was clean as well.
- She quickly changed into her new dress that Darien had purchased after taking a shower. After dressing her baby, she sat on the edge of the bed and gazed at him in admiration.
- The infant fell back asleep shortly after his mother breastfed him.
- “I love you my hero,” Jeri shut her eyes and kissed the infant on the forehead. "You do not need to worry because Mom is here for you. I will do everything in my power to help you succeed as a man. That's a promise from me.”
- Jeri's eyes were filled with genuine motherly love as she mumbled a few words to her child.
- After a while of staring at her child, she sighed and exited the room.
- Despite the fact that she was still in pain, she endured it in the hopes of being treated by the retired doctor, Dr. Jonathan Emiliano, who had previously introduced himself to her.
- Jeri paused as she was about to enter the living room after exiting her room because she overheard noise from there.
- She suspected Darien and his grandfather of plotting something evil against her and the child, which caused the uproar.
- Jeri couldn't comprehend what was going on even though she tried to figure out what was happening by eavesdropping on their conversation.
- However, her curiosity got the best of her, and she found herself peeping, trying to figure out what was going on.
- When she noticed what was going on in the living room, she jerked back and hid herself. Her heart began to pound violently against her chest, making her restless.
- ‘Armrobbers in this type of house? What exactly are they here to steal?’ Jeri reflected internally as she tried to hold her breath and avoid being noticed by the intruders.
- "You are not the reason we are here. Hand her over to us, and we will leave without hurting anyone," one of the intruders announced, pointing a gun at Darien with his finger on the trigger.
- “How many times do I have to tell you that no lady is here, huh?” The young man in front of Darien was met with fierce retaliation.
- Alternatively, Dr. Jonathan Emiliano had already surrendered to the trespassers who had come for Jeri.
- “Good,” the intruder who was pointing a gun at Darien chuckled."Boys, search the entire house for that woman."
- “As you commanded, boss,” his boys chorus in unison.
- Darien sidestepped and stood in front of them, preventing them from taking any further steps.
- Unfortunately, the old man, who had already been on his knees pleading with the armed robbers not to harm them, became enraged. Despite his advanced age, he was not prepared to die soon.
- "Stop being stubborn, Darien!" The old man yelled at him, attempting to grab his hand and force him to surrender, but Darien remained motionless.
- "I have no idea who they are searching for or what she did to them. But I am confident that whoever the woman is, she is innocent, and I will not let them harm her if she lives under my roof," he snapped with a pale expression.
- However, while speaking, he was gently rubbing the tip of his index finger against his wrist watch, as if he was attempting to communicate with someone through the wrist watch.
- "Get out of our way or I will blow off your brain!" One of the intruders threatened, raising his gun to Darien.
- "I will not, and you will do nothing." Darien grinned.
- Just as the young man pointing a gun at Darien was about to pull the trigger, a hoarse voice echoed throughout the room, drawing everyone's attention to the door.
- “Freeze! Everyone stay where you are! Put your weapons down and your hands in the air!”
- When the intruders saw the large number of armed men who had stormed into the house, they surrendered without hesitation.
- The four intruders were handcuffed and led away by the uniformed men without much discussion with Darien.
- Jeri who was opportuned to witness a little of what happened earlier noticed something strange which triggered her to inquire about it.
- "Who were those men who saved us?" with shaky hands Jeri inquired. “ Because I noticed a rare batch fastened on their uniform. If I am not mistaken, such batches can only be worn by a certain billionaire's security personnel. I am curious as to why they rescued us rather than the police.”
- “Hmm… Well, all I know is that they saved us. I have nothing to do with who they work for. I am certain they work for the government because they all have ID cards fastened to their uniforms. Besides, I am not sure why we should be discussing this instead of focusing on your treatment." Darien responded and gestured towards one of the cushions to sit.
- “And who were those intruders?”
- “Well,” Darien shrugged." I suppose they came for you. Perhaps they were sent to attack you."
- Jeri remained silent for a while as she considered what Darien had said. She was convinced that the intruders were sent by her stepfamily and no one else.
- Although she was not pleased with Darien's response, she nodded and thanked him. "Thank you for everything you have done so far and what you are planning to do for me. You're indeed a godsend. If not for you, I would have been killed. Thank you so much for everything.”
- “Don’t mention.”
- However, given how quickly they were rescued from the armed robbers, Jeri suspected Darien was hiding something from her. There was still something fishy about Darien that she had yet to discover.
- "We need to stop the bleeding," Dr. Emiliano, who noti
- ced a drop of blood on Jeri's foot, warned, "or you will not survive."
