Once entangled in such affairs, the idyllic life that Nylah Scott and I were currently enjoying would be abruptly disrupted. I wished to avoid that scenario. Lauren Krause had chosen her own path, and I was confident that Shelly Jones coming to me was not at Lauren Krause's request, so I saw no need to involve myself in this mess.
