Chapter 106 A Promise
- I knelt next to his bed and stared up at him, my hands clenched into fists on my thighs. I said nothing, fear rolling down my body in waves. I bit down hard on my lower lip and didn't even flinch when I cut into my skin. Those words he had said kept repeating in my mind. His emotions as he yelled them had been so raw. I felt it deep in my bones, my dragon too.
- “I'm sorry,” I whispered at last, when his breathing became normal. He was no longer clutching the blanket like it was a lifeline, something to save him from me.
- He didn't say a word, and I had to peer up to look at him. He wasn't looking at me. His gaze was at the window, and his jaws were clenched tight. I doubt I'd ever seen him like this, not even the time he ignored me on our way here.
