Chapter 7 We're Hitting A Jackpot

  • So, Austin followed Deborah and went into the Fairview Building.
  • Four years ago, Austin visited the Fairview Building once.
  • So, he could still remember the interior of the Fairview Building.
  • However, after Richard passed away four years ago, the interior of the building changed a lot.
  • They only reserved some of the more memorable parts of the building.
  • As Austin walked into the building, he could not help but sigh.
  • This was the place his father had worked hard for every day.
  • Austin would not allow his father's hard work to go down the drain.
  • The news of Austin coming back had reached the Brigham Corporation.
  • When everyone saw Austin in the Fairview Building, they started to speculate he was there to seize power.
  • If so, there would be plenty of drama in the Brigham Corporation.
  • When Austin and Deborah arrived, plenty of people had gathered in the conference room.
  • Every Brigham family member who worked at the company and the company executives had gathered there.
  • Currently, the company was divided into two groups: the Brigham family members which was led by Mitchel Brigham and the company executives.
  • It was common to have people fall into two camps with opposing views in a family-owned company.
  • On one hand, the Brigham family members regarded themselves as the company's owners, while others were working for them.
  • On the other hand, the company executives thought the Brigham family members were just parasites who sucked on the family wealth and were good for nothing.
  • When everyone in the conference room saw Austin coming out from Deborah's back, everyone had different reactions.
  • The Brigham family members' reactions were still the same as the day before. They still considered Austin nothing but trash and did not even hide their disdain towards him.
  • As for the company executives, despite rumors from the Brigham family members, they had decided to keep an eye on Austin before fully grasping his ability.
  • There was also another reason: Austin was Richard's son.
  • The company executives had been working with Richard since the beginning. They might not know Austin yet, but they trusted Richard and his ability.
  • How bad could Richard's son be?
  • "That's very shameless of you to show up uninvited," Mitchel said with a sneer. He was very unhappy to see Austin there.
  • "This meeting is for the shareholders and the executives, which you are neither. You are not even an employee of this company. So what makes you think you can attend this meeting?" said an arrogant young woman dressed flamboyantly in a short red dress.
  • Her name was Leah Forger, Old Mrs. Bringham's niece. She had the brain and the look, but she also had an evil mind.
  • Leah was such a smooth talker, she charmed her way into Old Mrs. Brigham's heart and made her treat Leah like her own daughter. Mitchel was nothing compared to her when it came to scheming.
  • Leah was closer to Mitchel since she was young. Naturally, she sided with Mitchel.
  • Even though technically Austin was Leah's older cousin, he was not a blood relative to the Brigham family. So Leah did not really consider Austin as her cousin.
  • That was why Leah concluded that Austin was worthless to her, especially after learning Austin's "glorious incidents". She had no intention to be polite to him.
  • Of course, Deborah had known Leah's attitude well, but she was still very unhappy about how rude Leah treated Austin in public.
  • "Leah, Austin is your cousin. Why do you humiliate him in front of everyone?" asked Deborah.
  • "Cousin? He's not my cousin. Deborah, I think you are better off if you divorce this rubbish and marry Mitchel. Otherwise, you'll be cast out from the Brigham Corporation one day too!" said Leah snobilly, leering at Deborah.
  • All this while, Leah and Deborah did not get along well.
  • Leah liked to pick on Deborah, because she was jealous of Deborah being better than her in their looks and their work abilities.
  • "Leah is right. Deborah, you should divorce this piece of trash as soon as possible, and save your future in the company."
  • "Everyone could see how much Mitchel cares for you. You two are made in heaven."
  • "If I were you, I would divorce that scumbag right away and be with Mitchel."
  • The rest of the Brigham family members continued to provoke Deborah in front of Austin, hoping to incite her to leave Austin. They were enjoying humiliating Austin in public.
  • The executives saw how the Brigham family members treated Austin. They sympathized with the treatment Austin got from his family despite him being Richard's son, they did not want to interfere with the Brigham's family matter.
  • Hearing the words from the Brigham family members, Deborah was furious. And she was more disappointed when she saw Austin did nothing to defuse the situation.
  • His incompetence was beyond hope!
  • At that moment, the leader of the Brigham family, Old Mrs. Brigham, came into the conference room in a steady gait.
  • Her usually stern face was unusually covered in big joyous smiles.
  • Old Mrs. Brigham was in an exceptionally good mood today.
  • Everyone in the conference room greeted the Old Mrs. Brigham.
  • She nodded slightly, and walked towards the head seat, which was reserved for the leader of the family.
  • Old Mrs. Brigham sat down and took a look around the conference room. She did not show any emotion when she saw Austin.
  • "Granny, do you want the unrelated person to get out before we start our meeting?" said Leah to Old Mrs. Brigham.
  • Obviously, she was referring to Austin. .
  • "Since he is here, I don't mind if he wants to sit in," said Old Mrs. Brigham without looking at Austin.
  • "We don't have enough seats in the conference room. You have to stand if you want to join the meeting. If that was too much for you to take, you may leave," said Mitchel with a smirk.
  • It would be impossible for Austin to get his hand on the Brigham family inheritance if Old Mrs. Brigham was cold towards him.
  • Deborah gave a look to Austin, who was standing by her side, asking for his intention.
  • "I can stand," said Austin calmly.
  • The King of the Southern Continent was more resilient than this tiny humiliation.
  • Austin had faced bigger obstacles than this.
  • Deborah did not say anything. She went and sat in her seat for the meeting while Austin stood upright at the corner near the entrance of the conference room.
  • "I must say, the military training was quite useful, at least your standing posture is quite something," said Mitchel sarcastically.
  • Everyone from the Brigham family laughed out loud.
  • "Granny, you look exceptionally well today, like you are getting younger! Do you have something good to announce?" asked Leah, distracting Old Mrs. Brigham from the chaos.
  • That was another reason that Leah was Old Mrs. Brigham, because Leah was better at buttering Old Mrs. Brigham up than Mitchel.
  • "You're right!" said Old Mrs. Brigham, still with a big smile on her face.
  • "We are hitting a jackpot!"
