Chapter 18 Offending the Military Brass Hat

  • The bald man assumed Deborah was an incompetent driver after observing the typical Volkswagen she was driving. As a result, he was determined to defraud her.
  • Meanwhile, Deborah was anxious and unsure what to do when Austin gently held her hand, signaling her to let him deal with it. He immediately unbuckled his seat belt and exited the vehicle.
  • "Keep your tongue in check. If you believe it is our fault, contact the traffic police to determine who is at fault."
  • Austin said in a tone that was neither servile nor overbearing to the bald man in front of him.
  • The bald guy became irritated when he learned Austin was going to call the cops.
  • A dozen or so of his lackeys immediately surrounded him with a wave of his hand.
  • They would beat Austin to a pulp once the bald man gave the order.
  • "Dammit! You still want to call the cops to intimidate me? I believe you are courting death," swore the bald man angrily.
  • People like him disliked dealing with authorities the most. Austin wanted to call the cops, which irritated him even more.
  • "The rule of law now governs us. You want to bully us because you outnumber us?"
  • Austin spoke calmly as he cast a quick glance at the surrounding individuals.
  • "Yes, I just want to take advantage of the fact that you are outnumbered.  I want to intimidate you, bastard. What will you do about it? Don't even think about leaving unless you pay 300,000 or 500,000 dollars today," said the bald man in a very peremptory manner.
  • These people had no regard for the law!
  • Deborah panicked when she saw such a situation and had no idea what to do.
  • She feared these hoodlums the most because they were unscrupulous, vulgar, and impervious to reasons. She was at her wits' end after having provoked these people.
  • Deborah nervously said, "What should I do now?"
  • "Wait! Please, Mr. Till, show mercy!"
  • A woman's coquettish shout could be heard at this point, and the voice sounded vaguely familiar.
  • Looking behind her, she noticed Pearl getting out of a BMW Z4 and trotting over in flat shoes.
  • Austin was surrounded by the bald man's lackeys, who were eager to teach that him a harsh lesson. They hadn't anticipated Pearl getting involved.
  • "Huh? Ms. Swanson?"
  • When the bald man saw Pearl, he raised his brows and waved his hand.
  • His subordinates were not in a hurry to take action, but they still had Austin surrounded.
  • Pearl had planned to go to the Wrights' house to persuade Deborah's parents. After all, she had rejected Deborah and appeared cruel if she had not tried to explain. She had not expected to encounter such a scene on her way there.
  • "It's such a coincidence to see you here, Mr. Till. That's my cousin in the car. Could you please do me a favor and stop making things difficult for them?"
  • Pearl was all smiles. She had only met the bald man a few times and didn't know him all that well.
  • However, she frequently had tea with the father of the bald man, so they were acquainted. As a result, they had a very close friendship there.
  • "Do you a favor? Did you notice how badly my car was damaged? Is the cost of that favor the same?"
  • The bald man's eyes flickered. Even at home, his father would frequently mention Ms. Swanson's exceptional tea skills, and the old man had greatly admired them.
  • He hadn't done anything yet because he was still weighing the pros and cons.
  • "Ah? You idiot... Forget it. You can deal with it on your own. Mr. Till, you can deal with this man however you want, but can my cousin sister..."
  • "Get out of here! I don't want to see any women right now! I'm miffed." The bald man waved his hand impatiently, his face gloomy.
  • Originally, he intended to pound both of them, but Pearl's sudden appearance caused him to reconsider.
  • Letting go of Deborah would mean doing Pearl a favor.
  • Even Pearl couldn't be bothered with Austin. That meant he could do whatever he pleased.
  • Now the bald man only wanted to lash out at Austin.
  • Pearl quickly expressed her gratitude to him while ignoring Austin completely.
  • If Austin had been more competent, his wife wouldn't have had to suffer humiliation alongside him.
  • Pearl had the most contempt for this kind of good-for-nothing.
  • "I'm not leaving. How could I leave him here alone? There are so many people on the other side, I..."
  • "It's all right. You go back with her first. I've got this."
  • Austin's expression remained unchanged. He added after a brief pause, "Remember what I told you earlier? So long as you believe in me and stand by me."
  • Deborah's heart shuddered, and she had a kind of vacant look in her eyes.
  • She noticed Austin's determined expression as he spoke those words steadily and calmly, and she remembered Austin's hideous scars on his backs, which resembled a terrifying dragon.
  • "Let's go first. Let the men figure it out for themselves. We can't do anything to help anyway. Let's get going."
  • Pearl hurriedly dragged Deborah into the car and drove away, afraid of getting into trouble. She had zero interest in Austin.
  • In her opinion, this type of boastful good-for-nothing should be subjected to some beatings so that he could be more restrained of himself in the future.
  • "Kneel to me now, you scumbag. Then you'll have to pay another 300,000 to 500,000 dollars. Only then would I think about letting you go."
  • The bald man gave an evil grin, his fists clenched, and his fingers cracked.
  • "I hope you're still able to laugh after this."
  • Austin raised his brows, clearly interested.
  • "You're about to die, and you dare to talk big? Did you expect me to go one-on-one with you? Damn! I have a lot of men who want to mess with you. Please tell me. Which of these do you want to get rid of? Arms or legs?"
  • The burly men drew a sharp dagger from their waists after the bald man winked at them, and the daggers appeared to be the same kind.
  • Austin's face was calm, with no sign of fear.
  • As King of the Southern Continent, he had no regard for these completely useless people.
  • Just as he decided to rid all of these people, a convoy of cars appeared in front of him. Behind him, there was yet another convoy.
  • The bald man and the burly men around him were both taken aback.
  • Because these two armored convoys were headed their way.
  • Hundreds of soldiers dressed in camouflage uniforms formed a line.
  • From there, over a dozen stern-faced men emerged and made their way over to Austin's side.
  • "Southern Continent Special Forces, Cheetah, is here to report!"
  • Twelve people stood in a line and gave Austin the standard military salute.
  • Hundreds of soldiers in camouflage uniforms moved quickly and surrounded several off-road vehicles with the bald man and others, shortly after the twelve Tiger Generals saluted Austin.
  • There was no way for the bald guy and his men to get out of here unless they had wings.
  • Initially, those stuck on the road were still grumbling in their hearts, but the bald man and his men did not look like people who could be trifled with, so they held back their rage for the time being.
  • When these people saw the army's vehicles, their rage vanished.
  • "What's the situation?"
  • "Did we just offend the military brass hat?"
  • "Shit! It's over. Even the boss cannot defend himself from him."
  • The burly men with daggers in their hands exchanged glances before tossing their weapons to the ground.
  • They were paid to do things, so on regular days it was acceptable for them to intimidate the defenseless and unarmed civilians.
  • Mr. Till would always get the job done, as long as nobody got killed.
  • Even if they had the courage, they would never take action against the military.
  • "I...I...I was wrong!"
  • The bald man's lips trembled.
  • When he saw the stripes on Cheetah's and the others' shoulders, his heart nearly leapt out of his chest as he realized the ranks.
  • The bald man simply couldn't afford to offend even one of these officers, even if they were chosen at random.
  • However, these people were extremely polite to Austin, which made the bald man feel increasingly terrified.
  • Who exactly is Austin?
  • Why would someone like this show up in Fairville?
  • The bald man did not think that the Brigham family would have someone like that.
  • "You guys came to Fairville as well? Cheetah, were you the one who told them?"
  • The corners of Austin's mouth turned slightly upward as he cast a quick glance at the twelve individuals, revealing a tender smile.
  • It resembled the adoring gaze one would have for young children.
  • These elites of the elites were all trained by the King of the Southern Continent himself.
