• After I said that, I picked up the child and turned to head upstairs, a quiet spark of anger flickering in my chest. I had no desire to get caught in the conflict between Stefan and the Shirewood family. The only thing I needed to protect was this little home of mine.
• In the bedroom, I laid the child down on the bed. The more I thought about it, the more agitated I became. There was no telling if Jenny would come to me again with something similar, leaving me stuck in the middle, unable to please either side. Since Stefan didn't want me to have contact with the Shirewood family, I might as well block them all in one go. However, they chose to see me, they could take it up with Stefan.
