Chapter 11 An Old Friend

  • Natalie relaxed and went to the doctor with her report. She was told it was indeed an endocrine disorder that caused her period to stop. He then prescribed her the appropriate medicine.
  • When Natalie arrived at the supermarket with the shopping list prepared by Zoey, she overheard a conversation between two women. One of the woman’s husband had cheated on her, and she just taught the mistress a lesson.
  • After the woman gave birth to her child, she found out that her husband was cheating on her. She didn’t cry or complain to her husband. Instead, what she did was run a background check and found out the mistress’ father was a university professor. She immediately screenshotted the chat records between her husband and the mistress to the mistress’ father.
  • When the father found out his daughter was doing something immoral, he immediately brought her back home and gave her a beating. The pregnant daughter suffered from a miscarriage in the end. Meanwhile, someone reported the woman’s husband at work and he got demoted. After the incident, he became obedient to her at home.
  • Natalie’s heart raced as she listened to the whole story. Back then, when she agreed to be with Sebastian, she ran a background check on him secretly as she was afraid he might be secretly married. To her surprise, although the man was super wealthy, he only had a crush. He even lost his virginity to Natalie.
  • If Natalie hadn’t been with Sebastian for over a year and knew he was functioning alright, she would’ve thought something was wrong with him.
  • Her thoughts were in a jumbled mess when she heard the woman’s friend asking, “Why did you report your husband at work? He got demoted. Does that even benefit you? You’re ruining his career!”
  • “I ruined him? He was the one who ruined me!” the woman declared viciously. “I sacrificed everything for him. Even after I found out he was cheating on me, I said nothing because of our child. But, that mistress of him came to my house and taunted me! I decided to destroy their reputation and teach her a lesson!”
  • Natalie recalled how Sally taunted her back in the hospital. It dawned on her after she heard the woman’s declaration.
  • A year ago, I was out of options when Claude betrayed me. In the end, I let him off easy. Right now, he’s begging to get back together with me. Even his ex is acting all arrogant in front of me.
  • If Sally’s pregnant, I’ll have to give her a present.
  • Natalie wrote a phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to the woman. “I’m sorry. I overheard your conversation earlier. This lawyer is a friend of mine. He can help if you want a divorce and make sure your husband ends up with nothing.”
  • Before the woman could reply, she left with her shopping cart.
  • When Zoey returned home in the evening, she saw someone busy in the kitchen. Rushing over, she exclaimed, “What happened? Why are you helping me prep for dinner?”
  • She leaned nearer and spotted the smile on Natalie’s face. “Oh? Why are you so happy? Are you really pregnant?”
  • “Of course not!” Natalie huffed and stuffed a few cherry tomatoes into Zoey’s mouth. “My yoga trainer is abroad. Give me your trainer’s number. I’ll go there tomorrow afternoon.”
  • Zoey harrumphed and patted her hips. “You work out so diligently at home. Why do you need to go to yoga class? Wait, isn’t she Mrs. Harper’s private trainer?”
  • She immediately grasped the situation. “You’re going to take revenge on Sally Harper after a year?”
  • “She’s pregnant.” Natalie grinned evilly. “She even taunted me at the hospital. I spared her back then. Since she was bold enough to provoke me again, I won’t have to hold back!”
  • “Good! That’s the Nat I know!”
  • After contacting Zoey’s yoga trainer, she soon met Sally’s mother, Mrs. Harper at the yoga class.
  • Mrs. Harper was the director of the biggest art gallery in town. She took good care of herself and only looked like she was in her twenties.
  • As Natalie had researched Mrs. Harper’s hobbies and read up on artsy stuff, she and the lady struck up a conversation easily. Mrs. Harper often watched the variety show which Natalie hosted and couldn’t stop chatting with her. She even mentioned her daughter’s birthday was about to come and asked if Natalie was free on that day.
  • Natalie was waiting for this invitation. Grinning, she said, “I’m honored to be invited. Of course I’ll be there with a gift.”
  • “It’s just a party. You don’t have to bring a gift.” Mrs. Harper was pleased.
  • After dealing with Mrs. Harper, Natalie unblocked Claude and sent him a text to extend an invitation to a friend’s birthday party a few days later.
  • Claude instantly agreed. He even asked who the friend was so he could prepare a gift, too.
  • Sneering, Natalie replied: An old friend.
