  • When I finally opened my eyes, the first thing I noticed was the absolute, profound stillness of the room. I blinked against the soft, warm sunlight filtering through the sheer curtains, waiting for the familiar, heavy dread to settle into my chest. But to my utter confusion, my body felt remarkably light. The chronic tension that had knotted my shoulders for the past three months had completely unraveled. There were no muffled shouts from neighboring apartments, no roar of early morning traffic, and no heavy footsteps of sketchy tenants passing my door.
  • I rolled over on the dark silk sheets, my eyes landing on the sleek digital clock mounted on the wall. My jaw nearly dropped.
