• “What?” He halts looking at me like I'm crazy. “Are you being serious right now? Mia just hit her head trying to make soup since you couldn't help even though you saw she was sick and on medication, yet you chose this very moment to throw a tantrum? I can't believe you!” He seethes, slicing each word into my heart before brushing past me, bumping his shoulder into mine in the process.
• “Is Alex upset?” Mira fakes pain in her voice, tears rolling down her face. “I didn't mean to intrude and cause problems for you. I'll get going then.”
