Chapter 7
- Novah's POV
- Frightened, I stepped backwards as I held onto the now empty cup of coffee.
- The moment he snapped his head upwards and we locked eyes, I began to run my mouth, “I didn't mean to run into you. I was… I mean… I should have taken the exit route instead of…” I filtered off in fright.
- The menacing gaze I was receiving from the man in front of me made my heart constrict against my chest.
- He was the one who was at fault even though I decided to take the blame and so he should let it slide.
- If he wanted a new shirt, I could get that for him as it was easy peasy but I decided to keep my cool until he said or did something that would vex me.
- With a low tone, he called, “Novah!”
- “Huh! Have we met before now?” I asked, giving the man a suspicious look with my head tilted to the side.
- “You don't recognize me?” He asked and immediately I tilted my head to the side. Still standing there, Thorne and Bishop, my five year old son arrived.
- “What is going on here?” Thorne asked, scooping Bishop who was wielding a lollipop in his hand.
- “It's nothing serious, I already apologized.” I rapped, trying to push Thorne out of the scene but he refused to move.
- “Don't tell me you are trying to gain favor from Wesley through his daughter.” Thorne said and immediately, I poked his side.
- “Why will you say that?” I said in a whisper, glaring hard at him.
- “I'm saying nothing but the truth so you don't have to be mad at me.” He retorted but still I felt he went too far so I shifted my attention to the young man.
- With my hands resting by my side, I did a curt bow, “I'm sorry, I will be leaving now.”
- This time around, I pulled Thorne away from the scene before he said something else that was going to cause a fight.
- Now inside the car, I pushed my hair behind my ears and then took a deep breath.
- “Why did you do that?” I asked through my teeth.
- “I know him; Riana Gunnar.” Thorne replied as he strapped his belt across his chest.
- “But that was not right.” I huffed. “I have asked you several times not to get involved in my affairs but you wouldn't listen.”
- Crossing my hands on my chest, I added, “I would have settled that without hurting his feelings.”
- “You're naive.” He said, stepping on the throttle.
- Not wanting to keep talking about the incident, I shifted my gaze towards the window to get my mind off the man's strange words.
- Somehow, I felt this connection with him that I couldn't fathom. It seems like he was someone from my past but no matter how much I tried to recall, I couldn't, leaving me frustrated.
- Having lost my memory five years ago after a life threatening accident, I had been trying to piece my memories together.
- One thing I was grateful for was that I had Bishop after the accident, otherwise, I wouldn't have believed I had a child.
- Pushing my hair off my face, I cast Thorne a glance.
- “It seems you two know each other.” I said, casting him another glance.
- “Of course I do know him, that's why I was quick to pull him away from him.” He smacked his lips. “Riana might look like he can't hurt a fly but he reeks of evil.” He snorted, grasping the steering wheel with both hands.
- His actions made me burst into chuckles.
- Thorne might be grown but most times he acts like a kid, just like he just did.
- With the way he had acted, it seemed like he had a fall out with Riana and had been nursing the anger against him for a while now.
- Crossing my hands on my chest, I said, “You're petty, you need to grow up.”
- “Why will you say that Novah? I’m not petty… If you were in my place, you would have acted the same way I did back there.” He snarled, swerving into a corner.
- “Tell me about it.” I said, grinning widely.
- Taking a deep breath, Thorne grabbed the wheel again and at once I knew that whatever it was that had happened between the two was deep.
- It would be safe to say they were enemies even though it was just Thorne's reaction I had witnessed.
- “Riana keeps getting in my way, making me look like a failure.” He said after brief silence. “I tried all I could several times to outdo him but he was just too good for me to handle, thwarting all of my efforts and pushing them in my face.” He added with a sigh.
- “You should have met with him to sort things out instead of nursing your anger towards him.” I allowed my words to glide from my tongue effortlessly even though I knew he was going to spark up in anger.
- “Not when we are sworn enemies.” He said through his teeth. “I wouldn't let this slide until I bring him to his feet and trample on his head.”
- With the way he spoke, I had no doubt that he was going to keep up with his words and I was already scared as I knew what he was capable of doing.
- “I still insist you should sort things out.” I mouthed, shifting my gaze away but his hot gazes kept grazing my skin.
- “Instead of doing that, I will prefer to be buried alive with rattlesnakes.” He sucked his teeth.
- “Grandpa said you shouldn't make such statements when I’m around. I will tell him you went against his words.” Bishop said, taking his gaze from the iPad he had been scrolling through.
- “Pardon me, I was furious.” Thorne replied, biting his lower lips. I could still see the anger emitting from him.
- “We don't tell on our brothers, isn't that what g
- randpa told you?” I decided to intervene so he wouldn't carry out his threat.
- “Fine!”
