Chapter 23
- ~ July 31st - 4:30 PM ~
- Rodger crouched by the fire pit. Soaking in the warmth as the shadows of the trees surround him. Occasionally, he cast a wary glance toward the trees where Zoe had ventured. A flicker of doubt crossed his mind. Should he have followed her to be there in case danger arose? He shook his head with a smile on his face. "If anyone can brave this wild forest, it’s Zoe," he reassured himself. "We should be more concerned about her finding an injured animal and wanting to tend to its needs!" He reflected at this point. "I should have gone after her!" Rodger whispered to himself.
- As he adjusted the burning logs, they hissed and popped. Sending sparks dancing into the evening sky. The mesmerizing flames captivated Rodger's attention. Drawing his attention away from Zoe. Calming his worried thoughts. Each flicker danced along the log. Waves of orange figures tell a story, reminding him that sometimes the best way to find peace is to let go and trust.
