Chapter 137 Helping Her Hubby Stay On The Job I

  • Growing up in the small, rural town of Ledbury.... a little village just a bit west of London....Trent loved horses and dreamed of someday becoming a steeplechase jockey. But he quickly grew too big, and had to give up on his dream before he was even out of secondary school.
  • In an effort to stay close to his beloved horses Trent took a job working around a horse barn near his childhood home. When he was still in his early twenties, Trent began working as a groom, exerciser, and stable boy for an established steeplechase trainer.... eventually working his way up to being head lad. Shortly before he turned thirty, Trent decided to try his hand at becoming an independent trainer, and opened his own training stables for runners and steeplechase racers just outside of Newent... a little town near where he grew up.
  • The early going was painfully slow.... getting rich racehorse owners to trust their expensive four-legged hobbies to Trent for training and racing strategy was a significant challenge. Still, within about three years he had managed to convince nine owners to place their twenty-one horses in Trent’s care.... which provided enough revenue for him to hire a few grooms and lads, and pay most of his monthly stable expenses on time. This allowed the horse-training business to eke out a hand-to-mouth living.... as long as everybody agreed to wear multiple hats around the barn, as needed.
