Chapter 3 I Have To Find Her(1)
- A luxurious dark-colored car parked in front of the property. The bank representative, confident it could be a potential client with more than enough money, adjusted his tie to greet the newcomer.
- A young man, tall, elegant, attractive, dressed in a designer suit, got out of the car and hurried towards the bank representative with a worried expression.
- "Good morning, excuse me... I'm looking for Isabella Sinclair," he announced, extending his hand.
- The bank representative stretched out his hand to shake the stranger's hand, showing a confused expression.
- "Who could this man be? Wasn't the girl supposed to be alone? As far as I know, there were only the mother and the daughter. And after the mother's death, the girl had no one else to turn to," pondered the man from the bank.
- "Could it be? Could it be possible that the Sinclair family was really involved with these people and now they would come to offer her help?" he concluded, so he immediately changed his expression to a friendly smile. Not every day could you have one of the members of that prestigious family in front of you.
- "Nice to meet you, young man. I'm Robert Lowell, bank representative."
- "Diego Ortiz," the young man said, and immediately, Lowell's expression changed to one of disappointment.
- "Well, Mr. Ortiz... I'm very sorry to inform you that young Isabella Sinclair no longer lives here," he said, trying to sound condescending.
- "What?! But, what happened? I heard about the death of Mrs. Patricia de Sinclair, and I traveled as fast as I could. How come she doesn't live here anymore?" Diego exclaimed, alarmed.
- "Oh, yes... Mrs. Sinclair passed away a couple of weeks ago from a terrible illness, a very unfortunate death, especially considering the amount of debts she left to her daughter. That's why the bank had no choice but to retain the house as part of payment," Lowell explained calmly, while young Diego opened his eyes wide, surprised.
- "What?! Isabella..." Diego took a step forward. "Isabella, where is she?!" he shouted in desperation.
- The bank man took a step back, somewhat fearful of the boy's reaction.
- "I don't know. I don't know where she's living. The girl was here about an hour ago; she came to pick up the mail, but from there, I don't know more," Lowell made a gesture with his hands, as if washing them, and turned around.
- Diego stood there stunned and dazed. How could he have arrived so late? He had made a promise to Isabella several years ago and was unable to fulfill it. He had left her alone and unprotected.
- Suddenly, the voice of a woman made him snap out of his daze. Confused, Diego looked around and saw a lady leaning against the fence of the neighboring house.
- "Hey, boy! I heard you're looking for Isabella..." The woman caught his attention. He approached quickly, hopeful.
- "Yes, yes, thank you... Do you know where she is?" he asked urgently.
- "I know it's none of my business, but I'll give you some advice... I recommend you stop looking for her..." The woman replied with a disdainful expression.
- "What?"
- "When the bank kicked her out of her house, I offered her to stay with me. I felt sorry for her, thinking she was a good girl who always took care of her mother. But I had to kick her out..." The woman explained, furrowing her brow.
- "How?" Diego looked at her in horror.
- "I gave her shelter and food, thinking she was helping with household chores. But I discovered the ungrateful girl was trying to seduce my husband. She turned out to be a troublemaker. That's why I kicked her out... And I think she went to a homeless shelter," the woman murmured to Diego, who felt a pang of pain and indignation.
- He straightened up and took a step back, unable to believe what he was hearing. The woman nodded, as if confirming her words.
- Diego looked up at the woman's property and noticed a middle-aged man, chubby and somewhat bald, peeking cautiously from one of the windows.
- "I recommend, ma'am, that you keep a close eye on your husband..."
- "What?" The woman looked at him confused.
- "Because I'm sure you live with a pervert and a potential rapist!" he growled angrily.
- "What?! How dare you?! How can you say such a thing?!" The woman began to shout indignantly as Diego turned around, completely ignoring her.
- He turned back to the bank representative, Robert Lowell, who was still standing on the porch.
- "Sir, do the paperwork right now. I will buy the property!" he shouted with determination.
- "Of course! Of course, Mr. Ortiz!" Mr. Lowell stammered in surprise.
- The man quickly entered the house to start the preparations, not doubting for a second that this young man had the financial capacity to buy the house immediately, judging by his car and expensive suit.
- Diego hurried to enter behind Lowell, and just as he passed the door, his cell phone started ringing.
- "Hello?" he answered, returning to the porch.
- "Have you finished with your personal matters?" asked a male voice he immediately recognized.
