- The discharge papers were signed before the sun was fully up. My head still throbbed faintly, and the bandage on my forehead itched under the sterile strip, but the doctors said I was clear: mild concussion, bruises, nothing that required staying longer. I changed into the clothes Sage had gotten for me that morning and walked out of that room with my spine straight, even though everything inside me felt bruised.
