Chapter 27 It's Happening!

• I stepped out of the bathroom, the steam still clinging to my skin like a reluctant goodbye. The hot shower had washed away the sweat and the scent of last night, or at least most of it, but it couldn’t touch the ache settled deep in my chest. I smelled like lavender and vanilla now, clean and fresh, my hair twisted up in a towel turban while another white one hugged my body. It felt like armor, thin and temporary.
• I padded over to the vanity and sank into the chair, facing the mirror. My reflection stared back, eyes a little too wide, skin flushed from the heat. I reached for my skincare routine on autopilot, going through the motions like if I did them perfectly, everything else would fall into place.
