Chapter 7 The King's Prey

  • 【Kaelen POV】
  • The woman collapsed into me.
  • I instinctively caught her.
  • Her back slammed hard against my chest.
  • A wave of burning heat, thick with the stench of blood, instantly wrapped around me.
  • I looked down, my gaze freezing in place.
  • A silver dagger was stuck right in her chest.
  • “Damn it!”
  • “Jax!”
  • “I’m here!”
  • “Break his limbs! All of them!”
  • “No! Kaelen! You don’t dare!”
  • Damien screamed in terror.
  • “I’m the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack! You touch me, you’re declaring war on every single Pack out there!”
  • “Declare war?”
  • I smirked.
  • I bent down and scooped Selene up horizontally from the floor.
  • I could feel her body convulsing violently from the pain.
  • I stared at Damien.
  • “First,”
  • “You’re on my turf, and you laid a hand on my woman.”
  • “Second,”
  • “Damien, did you forget something?”
  • “I’m a Rogue.”
  • “The one thing I’m not afraid of? War.”
  • I didn’t spare him another glance. Holding her tight, I turned and headed upstairs.
  • “Go ahead, make a move.”
  • “No—ah!!!”
  • Damien’s blood-curdling scream echoed from downstairs.
  • ...
  • “Bang!”
  • I kicked open the door to the med room and laid her down on the tiny bed.
  • “Fuck, why the hell isn’t she waking up?”
  • Jax rushed in after me, his fists still smeared with blood.
  • “King, her wound’s getting worse!”
  • “The silver toxin is spreading!”
  • Of course I knew!
  • I could smell it!
  • “That dagger... we don’t dare pull it out!”
  • Jax was sweating bullets, panic written all over his face.
  • “If we yank it out, she’ll bleed out instantly!”
  • “But if we don’t, the silver poison will keep eating away at her insides!”
  • “Her self-healing... it’s like it’s stopped working!”
  • My brow furrowed deep. I started regretting not stepping in sooner.
  • I could’ve stopped Damien the moment he tried to slap her.
  • But I didn’t.
  • I wanted to see just how far this stubborn woman could push.
  • Turns out...
  • She actually slapped Damien!
  • A broken Luna slapped an Alpha!
  • Honestly? That slap was fucking satisfying!
  • I admit it.
  • From refusing to mate, to exiling herself, ignoring the Alpha’s orders, and then slapping that asshole...
  • This woman had officially caught my interest.
  • That dumbass Damien—who the hell does he think he is, messing with my people right in front of me? He’s asking for death!
  • “Shut up.”
  • I cut off Jax’s babbling.
  • Reaching out, I touched her forehead.
  • It was burning hot—like a branding iron.
  • “Selene.”
  • ```
  • “If you even think about dying on my turf, I swear, I’ll toss your corpse right back to Damien.”
  • I knew threats worked better than sympathy with lunatics like her.
  • Sure enough.
  • Her eyelids... twitched.
  • Suddenly, her eyes snapped open!
  • “Diamond... diamond necklace... you... you’re holding it? Don’t... don’t let that bastard take it... it’s all I’ve got left.”
  • “At a time like this, you’re still worried about a necklace, you crazy bitch.”
  • “Help me... find someone...”
  • “Who?”
  • “Hecate...”
  • Her breathing grew weaker.
  • “That witch doctor... don’t trust her...”
  • “She... works for Evangeline...”
  • “I know, no need to say it.”
  • “Silver Moon Pack... Ayla.”
  • “She’s my... only friend.”
  • “Help me... get in touch with her.”
  • “I need proof...”
  • “Evangeline... two years ago...”
  • “Wolf poison... ‘Rogue’...”
  • “Payment... records...”
  • Her eyes finally closed for good.
  • ...
  • I stood by the bed, staring at her pale, ashen face and bluish lips.
  • “Wang?”
  • Jax whispered.
  • “Is she... dead?”
  • “No.”
  • I turned away.
  • “She can’t die yet.”
  • “Her revenge isn’t done.”
  • “Her ‘game’ is just getting started.”
  • “Jax!”
  • “Here, Wang!”
  • “Get a few things done, fast.”
  • “First,”
  • “Contact her friend, Ayla.”
  • “Tell her Selene’s with me.”
  • “Get the wolf poison evidence she needs.”
  • “Yes!”
  • “Second,”
  • My eyes landed on the bloodstained silver dagger I’d brought up from downstairs.
  • “You’re going to Silver Moon Pack yourself.”
  • “Tell Damien his people are here.”
  • “I’ve confiscated his silver dagger too.”
  • “Third,”
  • I threw on my coat.
  • “Silver poison... only a witch can cure it.”
  • “Go get Hecate.”
  • Jax’s face went pale. “Wang! Hecate’s Damien’s personal witch doctor! She won’t come! And besides... Miss Selene just said she...”
  • “Of course she won’t come.”
  • I smirked.
  • “She’s a witch.”
  • “But I never said I was asking her to save someone.”
  • “Don’t ask questions, just bring her here.”
  • “I wanna see if the one who can poison can also save.”
  • ...
  • Three days later.
  • I sat on the couch in the med room, wiping down that silver dagger.
  • The blood on it had dried.
  • Selene was still lying on the bed, unconscious.
  • That old hag Hecate was locked up in the dungeon.
  • She’d pulled the dagger out and smeared on some special witch medicine.
  • Of course, she only agreed after Jax snapped her fingers one by one.
  • But she insisted whether Selene woke up or not was up to the Moon Goddess.
  • “Wang!
  • Jax burst in like a maniac, phone in hand.
  • “Ayla... just replied!”
  • I looked up.
  • Jax’s face was dead serious—like I’d never seen before.
  • He shoved his phone screen right in front of me.
  • “Kaelen!”
  • “That silver dagger... Hecate herself poisoned it!”
  • “This isn’t just any silver poison!”
  • “It’s some new shit she cooked up, related to wolf venom... called ‘Soul Corrosion’!”
  • “There’s no cure. None at all!”
  • ```
